Experienced & Accomplished Faculty

Chemistry is the study of molecules, a part of the created universe that is central to nearly all areas of science and engineering. Biochemistry is inherently an interdisciplinary field that reflects an essential and current emphasis within the chemical sciences.

The chemistry department helps students develop:

  • logical, quantitative thinking
  • general problem-solving
  • powers of observation and manipulation in the laboratory

The learning objectives for biochemistry majors are:

  1. Students will be proficient in the chemistry knowledge and skills outlined by the American Chemical Society Committee on Professional Training (ACS-CPT).
  2. Students will be competent in information retrieval and literacy, and in analyzing ideas and information in the chemical sciences.
  3. Students will be able to solve problems of a chemical nature through appropriate hypothesis formulation, experimental design and valid interpretation of results.
  4. Students will be able to communicate clearly and accurately in written and oral forms such as laboratory notebooks, reports, and presentations and evaluate the communications of others based on the same criteria.
  5. Students will understand a career in chemistry as an appropriate Christian vocation in which their faith provides perspective as they evaluate the benefits and risks to our society brought about by scientific innovation and act accordingly as a responsible citizen and steward of God’s creation.
