Computer Science Major

Engineering & Computer Science DepartmentComputer science is a revolutionary field that has experienced enormous growth over the last decade. And because the impact of computers is far-reaching—integrating with nearly every industry—employment opportunities for computer scientists are expected to continue to rise, with many jobs in the field ranking in U.S. News & World Report’s Top 100 year after year.

Because the computer science field has such a wide sphere of influence, Geneva College has adopted a “Big Tent” approach to its program curriculum. Our computer science majors benefit from an outward-looking vision that actively integrates computer science with other disciplines and provides a flexible approach to earning a computer science degree.

The computer science core classes provide a broad-based understanding of the discipline’s foundations: programing, software engineering, mathematics, networking, security and ethics. The cross-disciplinary nature of the field is addressed through a minor or second major, which is required for completion of a computer science degree.

Computer Science Majors must take a minor or second major

Or any other major or minor offered at Geneva (with the exception of the generic computer science or software development minors, which are designed specifically for non-computer science majors)

Classes you might take:

  • Cybersecurity
  • Big Data
  • Disaster Recovery
  • Mobile and Cloud Applications
  • "Senior Capstone Project"

Why choose computer science at Geneva College?
