Geneva College offers a Biomedical Engineering concentration within its general Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree. Biomedical engineers design, manufacture and ensure safe operation of prostheses, various diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices such as clinical equipment or micro-implants, imaging equipment such as MRIs and EEGs, equipment for regenerative tissue growth, and equipment for pharmaceutical drug delivery.
Biomedical engineering uses many fields of engineering: electrical engineering for signal processing and instrumentation, computer engineering for control of systems, mechanical for structural strength design, and chemical engineering for design of fluid flows and design of materials. Geneva's biomedical engineering program can be used to explore any of these areas.
Biomedical engineers find careers in hospitals or other clinical settings, government regulatory agencies, pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies, and medical research institutions.
In addition to Geneva and general engineering core classes, students in the Biomedical Engineering concentration take classes in mathematics, science, and biomedical engineering. Example biomedical engineering courses include:
