ABET Accredited Logo

Geneva's Engineering program is ABET accredited.

Accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, Geneva's engineering and computer science program provides a breadth of knowledge through common core courses in programming, software engineering, computer architecture, operating systems and networks, as well as a depth of knowledge in an application area through completion of a minor or second major chosen to complement talents, interests and vocational goals.

Engineering Program: Educational Objectives

Preamble: We encourage our students and graduates to make choices and commitments "for faithful and fruitful service to God and neighbor."  For all engineering graduates, we have the following objectives:

  1. Embrace a Christian worldview - understanding the science and technology relevant to their fields and practicing biblical ethics as they perform their work and interact effectively with diverse teams of people.

  2. Be active members of Christian churches and engaged in church leadership roles, Christian service, and/or community service appropriate to their gifts and opportunities.

  3. Grow professionally and obtain certifications and/or advanced degrees appropriate to their career path.

Engineering Program ABET Student Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the engineering program, graduates will have achieved the following outcomes:

  1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  2. an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  3. an ability to communicate effectively and ethically with a range of audiences.
  4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal, ecclesiastical, and missional contexts.
  5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
  6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
  7. an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed in spiritual, social, and professional spheres, using appropriate learning strategies.
  8. an understanding of the biblical concept of calling, particularly of the calling to be an engineer.
  9. an understanding of the relationship between science, technology, and a Christian world view.

100 Years

Of engineering at Geneva College

“At Geneva College we are committed to educating students in the context of liberal arts. Traditionally, the liberal arts address the question: what does it mean to be human? On answer to this question is that humans make decisions that have ethical implications. Engineering is a human endeavor that, we believe, is best understood in the broader context of what it means to be human.” - Dr. James Gidley, Geneva College professor emeritus

Be prepared for careers such as...

  • Environmental Remediation Engineer
  • Air Pollution Control Engineer
  • Hazardous Waste Manager
  • Land Surveyor

Further your impact...

  • Obtain your Professional Engineer certification in 4 years, rather than 10
  • Partner with the federal government to clean up contaminated sites
  • Assume the role of technical specialist, or supervise other engineers

Employers of our graduates say, Geneva students demonstrate subject matter excellence and professional preparation; dependability and strong work ethic; and an exceptional ability to engage others constructively in workplace contexts.
