The writing major is a pre-professional major, providing students with experience in many facets of writing, with an emphasis on informational and creative writing. Geneva′s program prepares students for opportunities in journalism, publishing, creative writing, professional writing for business/industry and even free-lance writing. The writing major is designed to develop general writing skills while still giving the student the option of emphasizing creative or informational writing. The writing major is not a journalism major.
Washington Journalism Center Program. In partnership with the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU), Geneva students with strong interest in writing and journalism in particular, can participate in the summer Washington Journalism Center Program. This experience on Capitol Hill cultivates professional news skills and encourages students to think through the implications of being a Christian working in the news media in a city that is home to the powerful and the powerless. This summer program is a blend of classroom and field experience.
As with other liberal arts majors, Geneva′s English major provides a wide variety of options, largely because employers value students with the analytical, communication, writing and critical analysis skills associated with our program.
