Geneva College Athletes of the week for the week of September 12-17, 2011:
Brittany Kress - Tennis
Brittany Kress has been selected as the female student-athlete of the week. The sophomore delivered an impressive comeback victory on Saturday in the match against Thomas More to vault the Golden Tornadoes to their first PAC victory and their first win of the year. Kress opened the match with her partner Courtney Light for an 8-3 doubles victory to put Geneva ahead in the overall decision. With the match all squared at 4-4, Kress opened her singles match by dropping the first set 6-0. In an amazing comeback effort, Kress rallied to defeat her opponent 7-5, 7-5 in the next two sets to get the victory and give the Geneva tennis team its first ever PAC victory.
Jake McCracken - Soccer
Jake McCracken has been selected as the male student-athlete of the week for the second time in the first three weeks of the season. McCracken helped lead the men′s soccer team to a perfect 3-0 week and improve its overall mark to 5-1-1-. On Monday, McCracken registered three goals in leading Geneva past LaRoche 4-1. Two days later, the Golden Tornadoes defeated Malone by the score of 3-1 with McCracken picking up a goal and an assist. On Saturday night, McCracken opened the scoring in Geneva′s 5-0 victory over Franciscan. With five goals on the week, McCracken now leads Geneva with eight markers for the season.
