March Madness has come early for Geneva basketball as both the men's and women's basketball teams have qualified for the NCCAA Regional tournament with a chance to advance to their respective national tournaments. On Saturday night, Geneva's men's team went down to the wire again in pulling out an 81-80 victory over Westminster in the season finale. Geneva's women lost for just the second time on its their home floor, but are still looking at a possible trip to NCCAA nationals.

On Wednesday night, Geneva's men dropped yet another heartbreaker. The Golden Tornadoes lost to Thiel 87-85 in overtime. Despite the loss, Bryan Hill set a career best with nine three-point field goals in matching his career high in points with 31 in the loss. Geneva lost more than the game as starting point guard Justin Nardi left early with a concussion and was not able to play against Westminster. Without Nardi in the line-up, Geneva gave a gutsy senior night effort in a see-saw battle against rival Westminster. Fittingly, senior Zac Northen's eight foot baseline jump shot with 28 seconds remaining in the game proved to be the difference. Greg McDivitt paced Geneva with 24 points, while Joey Deep scored eight points while filling in for the injured Nardi. Geneva finished the regular season at 13-12 and will now await the NCCAA Eastern Regionals. Geneva looks as though it will be in a position to possibly host the regional on the weekend of March 7-8 with the times and opponents yet to be determined. Geneva's victory on Saturday marked the 203rd of Jeff Santasiero's Geneva career, which moved him into sole possession of second place on Geneva's career victories list.

Geneva's women were not so fortunate on senior night as the Golden Tornadoes dropped a 66-61 decision to Westminster on Saturday night. Three nights earlier, the Golden Tornadoes picked up their 20th victory of the season with a 62-47 victory over Thiel. It marked the first time in school history that the women's program enjoyed back to back 20-win seasons. Renee Rawding scored 22 points in the victory at Thiel, while Allyson Clarke posted double-doubles number 19 and 20 on the season this week. Clarke moved into third place on Geneva's all-time scoring list and into second place on the all-time rebounding list. Freshman Christine Carugati sparked Geneva's comeback victory over Thiel with eight points and she added a career best 13 points in the loss to Westminster. Geneva is 20-5 and will also look to the NCCAA post-season. Tentatively, Geneva's women will host the Eastern Regional semi-finals this Thursday against Mt. Vernon Nazarene. The schedule will be solidified early this week. A victory in the semi's would advance the Golden Tornadoes into the regional final, which will most likely take place at Roberts Wesleyan College on March 8.

Geneva's indoor track and field team sent four representatives to the NCCAA national meet this weekend at Cedarville University. All four participants improved their individual bests on the national stage. In women's action, Tiffany Bear place 11th in the shot put with a distance of 34 ft. 2.75 in.

Geneva's men were led by Dan Dillman's top ten finish. He brought home a ninth place finish in the men's shot put. Dillman, a freshman competing in his first national meet, finished with a distance of 43 ft. nine inches. Another freshman, Cory Fraction, placed 14th in the 55 meter event. Finally, fifth year senior Andrew Foxenberg placed 13th in the 3000 meter event in his final showing on the collegiate level. Foxenberg finished the race in a time of 9:10.66.
