It appears as though we are going to go straight from winter into summer and skip spring altogether. The ever-changing Beaver Falls weather has continued to play havoc with the spring athletic season. While the baseball team did manage to get in a doubleheader last week, the softball team has not taken the field since returning from Florida. This week also marks the beginning of the outdoor track and field season.

While we continued to wait for the weather to break, we did see the end of the winter athletic season last week with the trip to the NCCAA national tournament by the men's basketball team. Geneva finished the season at 14-14 after going 1-2 in Oakland City. Playing without starting point guard Justin Nardi because of an ankle injury, the Golden Tornadoes still managed to give a solid showing on the national stage. Geneva opened with a 10-point loss to eventual national champion Indiana Wesleyan. The Golden Tornadoes sandwiched a victory in against Asbury before dropping the season finale against Trinity Christian. In addition to their play on the court, Geneva's basketball team took part in several community activities and service projects while at the tournament. Most notably was their trip to an assisted living facility, where the players met with elderly throughout the afternoon. Congratulations to Jeff Santarsiero and the entire program for a job well done!!

Geneva's baseball team put up 30 runs in a doubleheader sweep over Hilbert last Monday. The Golden Tornadoes ran their winning streak to seven games with victories over Hilbert by the scores of 17-3 and 13-4. Tadd Eyster continued his hot start at the plate with six more hits, which moved his average to a team high .514. Dave Foss and Derek Sumner each tossed complete game victories for their second wins of the season.

Geneva's softball team is still waiting to play somewhere other than Florida. The Golden Tornadoes have a pair of road doubleheaders scheduled this week before the long awaited return to campus and the home opener on Saturday afternoon. For the first time in 10 years, Geneva's softball team is set to play on campus as it welcomes Grove City College to Beaver Falls on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the PAC opener.

The track and field team will travel to Carnegie Mellon University on Friday and Saturday to open its season at the Western Pennsylvania Championships.
