It was good to be home for the Golden Tornadoes this week. Geneva's softball team opened its new field, the track and field team enjoyed a home meet and the baseball team spent its Saturday with the home cooking.

For the first time in ten years, Geneva's softball team played a true home game. Playing on its new field, the Golden Tornadoes swept doubleheaders from Chatham and Westminster. On Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes split a twinbill with PAC leader Washington & Jefferson. Junior catcher Amy Pearce launched three homes in her first four home games. Her season total reached ten homers, which broke the school record for home runs in a single season. She is just four shy of the career home run record. Rebekah Wahl won three times this week and has pulled off four consecutive victories in the circle. Geneva finished the week with victories in five of six games and with a 16-10 overall record. Geneva is 8-4 against PAC opponents and have out scored those teams 70-15 within the league.

Geneva's track and field team had a pair of meets this week, including its only home action of the season. Geneva's women won the meet by defeating PAC opponents Waynesburg, Bethany and W & J. Several top performances were turned in by Geneva's women in both the track and the field events. The men's team turned in a third place finish. On Saturday, freshman Corey Fraction had a pair of top ten finishes in the 100 meter and 200 meter events. Josh and Phil Falk were solid in the 5000 meter race and the 3000 meter steeplechase. Meanwhile, Dan Dillman continued to be solid with top ten finishes in the shot put and discus.

Geneva's women controlled the middle distance events, including four of the top eight finishers in the 1500 meter race. Susan Fletcher won the event, while teammates Rebecca VanRegenmorter, Laura Seyler and Sarah Davis also were impressive. Tiffany Bear finished third in the javelin, while the Bolton sisters, Carolyn and Kathleen had top ten finishes in the 100 meter and 400 meter races.

After suffering through a long day to Kentucky, which resulted a pair of losses to Thomas More on Wednesday, Geneva's baseball team rebounded with a pair of victories over Westminster on Saturday. Geneva rushed out to an 8-0 lead over the Titans in game one and held on for an 11-7 victory. Tadd Eyster and Joel Gatti each had three hits to the lead the attack. Dave Foss moved to 4-0 on the season and Matt Baer tossed the final 3 1/3 innings for his second save.

Game two featured a solid outing from Derek Sumner as he won for the fourth time with a complete game victory. With the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth, Andy Hiskey laced a game winning single to seal the sweep. Geneva's baseball team moved to 13-8 on the season.
