In the only athletic action of the week, Geneva's baseball team closed out the regular season with a two-game split against Point Park University last Monday.

With the split, the Golden Tornadoes moved to 16-16 on the season and will now sit back and wait to host the NCCAA national tournament next week. After dropping a 9-5 decision to Point Park in game one, Geneva rallied for a 10-9 victory in the night cap with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Steve Bowser played the hero role with a walk-off hit for the victory. On the mound, Derek Sumner pitched four scoreless innings to gain his sixth victory of the season. In the process, he broke Geneva's single season record for strikeouts. With six punch-outs in the game, Sumner moved to 78 on the season and broke a record that had stood since 1982.

Later in the week, Sumner was named the SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the week, for his work on the field, in the classroom and in the community.
