Another homecoming celebration has come and gone and although the football result was not what we would have hoped for, the weekend turned out to be a tremendous event. On the field, Geneva got a strong dose of one of the best offenses in the country. W & J defeated Geneva 43-14 and showed everyone on College Hill why it is ranked nationally in the top ten.

The Golden Tornadoes fell to 1-3 on the football field, despite the efforts of the Matt and Matt running back duo. Matt Barge and Matt Dean each scored a touchdown in the loss. Dean rushed for 77 yards on just six carries and Barge added 49 yards on the ground and 41 yards in the air. Geneva's defense was again led by Zach Feltrop's 10 tackles and Aaron Tommelleo's nine tackles. The Golden Tornadoes will try to get back into the win column next Saturday when they travel to long-time rival Grove City College.

Congratulations to Bret Otte and Brian Yowler, in addition to dozens of volunteers who put together a very impressive event in the Homecoming 5K and Fun Walk. Over 130 people registered for the run/walk in what turned out to be a tremendous success. By the way, former cross country star Andrew Foxenberg cruised his way to the overall victory.

All good things must come to an end and that was the case for the women's volleyball team this past week. After extending its winning streak to 11 straight with a 3-0 decision over Grove City on Tuesday, the Golden Tornadoes were brought back to Earth with a 3-1 loss at Thomas More on Thursday evening. Geneva has an overall record of 13-4 on the season, including a 6-1 mark against PAC competition.

In women's tennis, Geneva picked up a pair of 9-0 victories in less than 24 hours during homecoming weekend. After dropping a 9-0 decision to Westminster on Wednesday, the Golden Tornadoes gained two sweeps against LaRoche on Friday and Bethany on Saturday. The tennis match ended up taking place inside because of wet conditions, but it didn't seem to matter to Geneva, which moved to 6-4 on the season.

The women's soccer team pushed its current unbeaten streak to five matches with a 0-0 tie at Bethany in the only match of the week. Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Londino stopped all seven shots she faced to pick up her fifth shut-out of the season. The Golden Tornadoes moved their overall record to 4-2-3 as they continue to write a very impressive turnaround chapter in 2008.

If all good things must end, don't tell the men's soccer team, because its winning ways seem to have no end in sight. Last week, Geneva went 3-0 with victories over Penn State Beaver, Penn State Behrend and Bethany. The trio of victories improved Geneva's overall record to 10-1, including victories in ten straight matches. Zachary Buffalini played the role of hero on Friday night when he scored the game's only goal in a 1-0 victory over Bethany with just 37 seconds remaining in regulation. Geneva's trio of goalkeepers in Jeremy Musser, David Callahan and Sam McCracken each picked up shut-outs last week.
