Geneva College's men's basketball team gave the Old Main victory bell its first work-out in quite some time. The tradition of ringing the victory bell has returned and the Golden Tornadoes got their first chance to try it out on Saturday after an 88-71 victory at Thiel College. Co-captains Justin Nardi and Nathan Reep both got the chance to ring the bell after the Golden Tornadoes finally picked up their first road victory of the season. After starting with an 0-8 mark away from Metheny Fieldhouse, Geneva used a hot shooting afternoon to put an end to the streak. Emilio Nardi came off the bench for a career best 17 points including a 5-5 effort from three-point range in the first half. Older brother Justin Nardi scored a team high 19 points in helping Geneva to the win. The Golden Tornadoes dropped games to Penn State Beaver and Thomas More earlier in the week and moved to 4-11 at the end of the week.
Geneva College's women's team will have to wait a bit longer to take a shot at the victory bell as it dropped both games this past week to Thomas More and Thiel. First losing to 16th ranked Thomas More and then falling short on a frantic comeback against the Tomcats. Trailing by 20 points early in the second half at Thiel, Beth DeLuca rallied the Golden Tornadoes back to within three points but was unable to ever grab the lead. Geneva College fell to 7-7 on the season as it prepares for a three-game home stand in the next two weeks.
Geneva College kicked off its track and field indoor season over the weekend with an unscored event at Marietta College. The Golden Tornadoes posted a couple of impressive efforts worth noting. On the women's side, Tiffany Bear picked up a pair of top ten finishes in the 200 meter dash and the shot put. Bear finished fourth in the 200 meter event and then finished sixth in the shot put. Teammate Jamie Williams finished fourth in the 300 meter race. In men's action, Corey Fraction was ninth in the 55 meter dash while Bobby Rex was fourth in the 200 meter event.
