It has been a rough stretch for the men's and women's basketball teams. Unfortunately, both teams started the new year the same way 2008 ended. Both teams dropped decisions to Saint Vincent College on Saturday night.

The women's team did put an end to its three game losing streak with a victory at Carlow University last week. Geneva College featured six players in double figures led by Val Hamilton's 15 points. On Saturday, Geneva College managed just seven first half field goals and shot only 22% from the field in falling behind 46-19 at the half at Saint Vincent. Geneva College trailed by as many as 41 points before making a late game charge that made the score more respectable at 75-52. Rachel Barry scored a team best 15 points in the loss. Geneva College begins the week with a 4-5 overall record as it gets set for three games beginning on Monday afternoon.

Geneva College's men's team suffered through a pair of losses at the Defiance College tournament to Calvin and host Defiance. Geneva College got back into PAC play on Saturday with an 80-68 loss to Saint Vincent. Rich Colick was named to the Defiance All-Tournament team and then posted 24 points in the loss to Saint Vincent. Geneva College has started the season with a record of 2-8, which is the slowest start since a 1-9 record to begin the 1981-81 campaign.
