Geneva College's indoor track and field team added another national qualifier to the list on Friday at the Slippery Rock University Open. Senior Rebecca VanRegenmorter qualified for the 1600 meter race with her time of 5:31, which was good enough for an eighth place overall finish. She joins teammates Corey Fraction, Dan Dillman and Stephen Polite as NCCAA national qualifiers at the national indoor meet on February 21 at Cedarville University.

Other track and field highlights from Friday included an eighth place finish in the final heat of the 55 meter hurdle event by Kelsey Anderson. She missed qualifying nationally by just 2/10 of a second. On the men's side, Corey Fraction posted a top ten performance in the 55 meter race as did Bobby Rex in the 200 meter event.

In basketball, the men's team dropped its only game of the week to Saint Vincent by the score of 102-89. The Golden Tornadoes could not overcome a slow start and a 20-point halftime deficit. Dave Phillips continued his hot shooting with a team best 23 points while Rich Colick and Lambros Svingos each added 19 points. The Golden Tornadoes have dropped five straight home games and have an overall record of 5-15.

The women's team continued to falter this week with a pair of losses that extended its season long losing streak to five games. The Golden Tornadoes dropped decisions to Saint Vincent (70-42) and Chatham (58-56) this week. In the loss to Chatham, Geneva College watched a 12-point second half lead disappear in coming up just short against the Cougars. Michawn Rich posted her seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds. The Golden Tornadoes ended the week with an overall record of 8-12 and will look to get back on track with a pair of road games coming up this week.
