While the weather continues to heat up so do the bats of the Geneva College baseball and softball teams. Both teams played four games last week and combined for an unthinkable 100 runs in those eight games. The baseball team went 3-1 and posted 59 runs while the softball team was a perfect 4-0 with 41 runs scored. Meanwhile, senior Tiffany Bear heated up the Geneva track with a first place finish in the Goetzis West multi-event over the weekend.

Geneva's baseball team opened its week in Florida with a 13-1 win over Bethany College. That win completed a 9-2 spring trip and a three-game sweep over PAC foe Bethany. Back home over the weekend, the Golden Tornadoes took two of three from Penn State Beaver. Geneva defeated the Lions 22-4 in the home opener before splitting a twin bill with Penn State Beaver on Saturday. In the three game series, Tadd Eyster was 7-14 with six runs and three RBI's. Teammate Phil Shallenberger was 6-11 with five runs and eight knocked in. Joel Gatti had seven hits in 12 at-bats, while Justin McGurgan was 7-8 and reached base in nine of his 10 plate appearances. Derek Sumner and Matt Baer each picked up their third pitching victories of the spring.

The softball team used a two-run seventh inning comeback to tie LaRoche last Thursday before winning in extra innings. Kim Slater connected on a two-out single to tie the game and Michawn Rich won it with a double in the eighth. Rebekah Wahl tossed a four-hit shut-out in game two to pick up her first victory of the season. In Geneva's sweep over Penn State Greater Allegheny, Martha Adams collected five hits while Julie DiLonardo, Lexi Svingos and Amy Pearce each hit their first homers of the season. Ariel Lilly notched pitching win number two and DiLonardo got her first collegiate victory in the night cap.

Geneva hosted the Goetzis West multi-event over the weekend with great results. Tiffany Bear won four of the seven events and scored 3474 points to capture first place. Teammate Jamie Williams (3116 pts) picked up third and Aisha Moore (2499 pts) took fifth place. Bear won events in the javelin, shot put, long jump and 200 meters. She has already qualified for the NCCAA national meet later this spring.
