Close games and exciting finishes were the main ingredient to the week that was for the Geneva College baseball and softball teams. The baseball team enjoyed one dramatic comeback and fell victim to a pair of hard fought losses. The softball team managed to hang on to one close victory, but watched another slip through their fingers. The track and field team enjoyed some very impressive performances at a mid-week meet at Grove City.

The baseball team opened its week with a doubleheader split at Washington & Jefferson. After dropping game one of the double dip, the Golden Tornadoes rallied for a pair of runs in the seventh inning to salvage the split. Jon Jurinko delivered a two-run single to highlight the comeback. Derek Sumner pitched seven strong innings in picking up his fourth victory of the season. On Friday, Geneva opened a three game series with 29th ranked Thomas More with an impressive 10-6 victory. Game two turned into a pitcher's duel with Derek Sumner again turning in a top notch performance. Sumner made just one mistake when he allowed a two run homer that proved to be the difference in a 2-1 loss. Sumner did provide the only offense of the game with his third home run of the season. On Saturday, Geneva and Thomas More hooked up in the rubber match. The Golden Tornadoes seemingly had things in control with a 5-0 lead, but the Saints rallied for seven unanswered runs and stole game three of the series 7-6. Joel Gatti hit his second home run of the season, but it was not enough for a Geneva team that finished the week with an overall record of 13-6.

The Golden Tornadoes' softball team opened its week with two wins over Penn State Beaver. Marty Adams opened the game with a home run and Amy Pearce later launched her second of the season. Pearce's homer was the 23rd of her career, which tied the Geneva career mark. Ashley Archer and Rebekah Wahl each picked up victories in the doubleheader sweep. On Friday, Geneva defeated Grove City 3-2 in game one of its doubleheader to push its winning streak to seven games. The streak came to a crashing end in the night cap when the Wolverines posted three seventh inning runs to steal a 4-3 victory. Adriane Blake homered early in the game and Michawn Rich had a pair of hits and an RBI in the loss. The Golden Tornadoes ended their week with a mark of 11-7 for the season.

Kelsey Anderson brought home a pair of first place finishes from Grove City with wins in the 100 meter hurdles and the javelin. On the men's side, Bobby Rex won three times including individual wins in the 100 and 200 meter events. Rex and teammates Matt Susa, Stephen Polite and Corey Fraction won the 4 x 100 relay. Polite also won the long jump and triple jump events. Over the weekend, Tiffany Bear finished fourth in the heptathlon at a meet held at Wheeling Jesuit University.
