Strong performances on the track and on the field highlighted a pair of meets for the Golden Tornadoes last week. The baseball team hooked up with its opponents for some offensive fireworks and Ashley Archer made history for the Geneva softball team.

Geneva's track and field teams competed in a pair of events last week. On Wednesday, Geneva hosted the PAC quad meet and came away with some impressive efforts in the sprinting events. Tiffany Bear won the women's 100 meter while Bobby Rex took first in the men's 100 and 200 meter races. The women's 4 x 400 relay team of Bear, Jamie Williams, Sarah Wilson and Aisha Moore finished second. In distance action, Rebecca VanRegenmorter won the 1500 meter event and finished second in the 800 meter race. Finally, in the field events, Tiffany Bear took first place in the long jump and javelin while teammate Jamie Williams won the high jump. Congratulations to Coach Otte and his staff for putting together a top notch event.

On Saturday, Dan Dillman took center stage with a first place finish in the shot put and a second place effort in the discus. The men's 4 x 100 meter relay team of Bobby Rex, Matt Susa, Corey Fraction and Stephen Polite took second place at the Westminster Invitational.

This past week on the baseball diamond was all about offense. In four games, Geneva and its opponents combined for 99 runs. Geneva dropped a 14-11 decision to Westminster before taking two of three games from Waynesburg over the weekend. Tadd Eyster was 4-5 at Westminster and followed that with a 3-3 game with two homers in Geneva's win on Friday. Derek Sumner picked up complete game victory in an 8-5 decision on Saturday before Geneva fell to Waynesburg 20-15 in the night cap. Joe and Jon Jurinko each hit home runs in the game two loss with Phil Shallenberger connecting on a three run homer which proved to be the difference in game one on Saturday. Geneva ended its week with an overall record of 18-10.

Ashley Archer became the all-time Geneva leader in pitching victories with her 52nd win on Saturday at Chatham. Archer is currently on a streak of ten consecutive scoreless innings including a three-hit shut-out over first place Thomas More on Friday. Geneva was 6-2 last week and moved its overall record to 22-12. Lyndsay Piette provided a game winning double in a win over Point Park on Monday and Sam Bautista connected on her first two collegiate home runs last week. Amy Pearce continued her torrid offensive pace with career homers 25 and 26 while Adriane Blake had 11 hits and five runs scored in eight games.
