In a fairly light week of competition where no Geneva team played more than one game, the Golden Tornadoes got mixed results across the board. Both soccer teams were successful in their lone matches of the week, the cross country team faced tough competition and miserable weather at Waynesburg, the tennis team pulled even on the year, while the football team ran into a sand shark at the beach.

In its only match of the week, Geneva's men's soccer team cruised to a 10-0 victory over Mt. Aloysius. Freshman Paul Liotta paced the offensive explosion with his first three collegiate goals. Kenton Burckhart and Coert Voorhees added two goals each as Geneva won for the fourth consecutive time and moved to 4-1 on the season. Jeremy Musser became the third Geneva goalkeeper this year to register a shut-out, a first in men's soccer history at Geneva.

The women's soccer team followed suit with a victory in its only match of the week. Geneva picked up its third victory of the season, one more than all of last year, and moved to 3-2 on the season with a 2-0 white wash of Medaille College. Amanda Munsch scored both goals and leads the team with four tallies on the season. Lauren Londino registered her third shut-out of the season by stopping nine shots to preserve the victory.

If there was a true winner at the Waynesburg Invitational Cross Country meet on Saturday it was the weather. 13 schools were forced to run through rain and mud in what turned out to be a messy finish. Geneva's men finished the day in eighth place, while the women brought home a 10th place finish. Geneva's men were paced by Josh Gunnett's 29th place finish with a time of 27:49, while teammate Josh Falk finished 48th. Rebecca VanRegenmorter crossed the line in 36th position in women's action, while teammate Nicole Okerlund finished in 41st place.

Last Monday, Geneva's tennis team moved to 2-2 on the season with an impressive 8-1 victory over Chatham College. The rematch with Chatham on Saturday was postponed due to inclement weather. On Monday, Geneva got singles victories from Kara Zimmerman, Amy Weller, Jill Grabski, Maura McLaughlin and Bethany Ragonesi. Geneva also swept the doubles action with McLaughlin and Ragonesi teaming up for an impressive 8-1 victory.

It turned out to be a not so fun day at the beach for the Golden Tornadoes football team on Saturday. Traveling to Salisbury, MD, Geneva fell to 0-2 with a 48-6 loss to the 12th ranked Sea Gulls. The Golden Tornadoes could not contain Salisbury's top ranked running attach which racked up close to 500 yards of rushing offense. Geneva's lone bright spot came on a two-yard touchdown run from Matt Dean. The score was set up by a Brian Wilson blocked punt. It is only the third time in Geno DeMarco's 16 years that Geneva has opened a season at 0-2. The good news for Geneva is that no DeMarco coached team has ever started the season at 0-3.

The volleyball team enjoyed a week off after taking the first place trophy at the Hiram Invitational Tournament. The Golden Tornadoes will begin conference play this week with four matches against PAC competition.
