Reeves Field never looked so good. Playing for the first time in what has become one of the finest facilities in Western Pennsylvania, the Golden Tornadoes could not overcome an early deficit and dropped the season opener to Division II Seton Hill 27-18.

Geneva scored the first six points and the last 12 points of the game, but it was the 27 unanswered points in the middle that provided the difference. Sophomore Gerard Muschette scored on a pair of touchdowns, including a 76 yard sprint to get Geneva back into the game in the third quarter. On the defensive side of the ball, Geneva forced three turnovers and got a team best 16 tackles from junior linebacker Aaron Tommelleo. Geneva fell to 0-1 on the young season and will hit the road for the first time this weekend to face 12th ranked Salisbury University.

Geneva's volleyball team provided a tournament championship over the weekend. After dropping a 3-0 decision to John Carroll on Friday, the Golden Tornadoes rolled off three consecutive victories to take the Hiram College Tournament title. Geneva moved to 5-3 on the season with the 3-1 weekend, including victories over Hiram, Kenyon and Ursuline. Junior setter Brandi Snavely compiled 160 assists (40.0/match) over the weekend, while sophomore outside hitter Adriane Blake led the way at the net. Blake came up with 20 kills in the victory over Ursuline on Saturday afternoon. Both Blake and Snavely were named to the All-Tournament team.

In women's soccer, Geneva's offense went silent last week. After two victories in the first week of the season with five goals, the Golden Tornadoes dropped back to back home field decisions to Point Park (2-0) and Pitt-Bradford (1-0). Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Londino did her best to keep Geneva in the match against Pitt-Bradford with nine saves, including a pair of breakaway stops, but the offense could not get on track. Geneva has an overall record of 2-2 heading into action this week.

Jake McCracken, who returned this year from a season ending injury a year ago, made his presence felt in a big way on Friday as Geneva rallied for a 2-1 victory over NCAA Division II Pitt-Johnstown. McCracken converted a penalty kick in the 79th minute and then scored the game winner off of a cross from Josh Mann with just over a minute left in regulation. On Tuesday night, Sam McCracken made a Bruce Fox goal stand up with his first shut-out of the season in a 1-0 victory over Point Park University. The men's team has won three straight matches and sits at 3-1 on the young season.

The women's tennis season started in good fashion with a 4-1 victory over Bethany College in the first match of the Penn State Behrend Invitational. Singles victories from Chelsea Cover, Kara Zimmerman and Jill Grabski paced the win, while the doubles tandem of Maura McLaughlin and Bethany Ragonesi also picked up a victory. Unfortunately, the rest of the day on Saturday did not go quite as well. Geneva dropped a pair of 5-0 decisions to Penn State Behrend and Fredonia to finish the first weekend of the season at 1-2.

The cross country team enjoyed the weekend off and is preparing to get back out on the course next weekend at the Waynesburg Inviational.
