The following week in athletics featured some teams remaining hot and others remaining cold. The football and menâ??s soccer teams increased their current win streaks while womenâ??s soccer and volleyball continued to take a downward turn. The cross country teams finally got back to work after two weeks off and will be preparing for the upcoming PAC championships.

For the second time this season, the Golden Tornadoes had to rally past Saint Vincent on the football gridiron. On Saturday night, the Golden Tornadoes erased a three-point fourth quarter deficit with three touchdowns in the final frame. Matt Dean led the offense with three rushing touchdowns of two, four and 48 yards. He finished the game with 66 yards on just seven carries. David Girardi was an efficient 20-25 through the air and freshman receiver Sam Thurston pulled in nine of those completions. AJ Delmonico turned the momentum with a fourth quarter kick-off return for a touchdown from 74 yards out to give Geneva a lead it would not relinquish. The defense forced four turnovers including Rich Kolesarâ??s PAC leading fifth interception. The Golden Tornadoes are 6-1 on the season and will close out the home regular season schedule against Bethany on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Genevaâ??s menâ??s soccer team had a light week of action but they took care of business in the only match of the week on Saturday afternoon. Rallying from two goals down, the Golden Tornadoes defeated Saint Vincent 3-2 to increase their win streak to six games. Geneva is currently sitting at 12-4 and has matched its win total from each of the past two years. Bruce Fox and Matt Weaver tied the game for Geneva in the first half before Josh Mann picked up his team leading ninth goal with just over five minutes remaining in regulation for the game winner.

The womenâ??s soccer team suffered a pair of one â??goal losses and have now dropped five straight including three straight by just one goal. The week started with a 2-1 loss at Chatham despite out shooting the Cougars by a ratio of 3:1. Rebecca Shaw scored the lone goal in the loss and then struck again to open the scoring in a 3-2 loss at Saint Vincent. Maura Allen tied the game in Latrobe in the final minutes but a bad bounce found the back of the net for the Bearcats with just over a minute to play in the game. Geneva has fallen to 7-8 on the season and must gain at least a win and a tie in the final week of the season to qualify for the NCCAA post-season.

In womenâ??s volleyball, Geneva suffered through a 1-3 week against some very good competition. After dropping a five-game match to Thiel on Tuesday, the Golden Tornadoes went 1-2 over the weekend at the Juniata College Tournament. After defeating York, Geneva lost to 26-2 Juniata and a CMU team that the Golden Tornadoes had defeated in five games earlier in the season. Adriane Blake led the offense with 45 kills over the weekend, but it wasn't enough as Geneva fell to 16-10 on the season.

Genevaâ??s cross country teams traveled to Walsh University for its first meet in three weeks. Nick Edinger and Ryan Thorn finished tenth and 12th respectively as the menâ??s team posted a fourth place overall finish. In womenâ??s action, Shannon Rech was 18th overall with a time of 20:28 to lead a total of five female runners in the top 50. Other top performances included Julia Urbanski (29), Sarah Davis (35), Olivia Biddle (43) and Samantha Miller (46). The cross country teams will be traveling to Saint Vincent next weekend for the PAC championships. Edinger, Thorn, Rech and Urbanski have each qualified for the NCCAA national meet on November 14 at Cedarville University.
