The first full week of basketball action ended on a positive note for the Geneva menâ??s team with an impressive 72-49 victory over LaRoche College on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, the womenâ??s team was not able to hold serve as they dropped a pair of games last week on the road.

Genevaâ??s women opened their week with a 72-65 loss at Penn State Beaver last Monday. Val Hamilton led the offensive with 11 points while Renee Rawding and Chelsea Dâ??Urso chipped in with ten points each. On Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes dropped a 79-64 decision at Fredonia State after holding a five-point halftime lead. Geneva was outscored 45-23 in the final 20 minutes and fell to 2-3 on the season. Beth DeLuca scored 13 points while Rawding and Christine Carugati posted 12 points each in the loss. Geneva will open PAC play this week at Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday night.

In menâ??s basketball action, Geneva opened the week with back to back road losses at Baldwin-Wallace and Division I Youngstown State. The Golden Tornadoes rebounded on Saturday with a win over LaRoche that put an end to their early season three-game losing streak. Rich Colick scored 22 points at Baldwin-Wallace while Lambros Svingos scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half of that game. TJ Bevilacqua scored 17 in the loss at Youngstown State before Colick took over again and scored a team high 18 points in the win against LaRoche. Genevaâ??s offense was clicking on all cylinders on Saturday with a mark of 63% shooting from the field (29-46), including a 15-21 effort in the second half to put the game away. Geneva has a record of 2-3 as it heads into PAC play this week. First, Geneva will visit Penn State Beaver on Monday night before traveling to W & J on Wednesday night.
