Despite the cold weather outside, the basketball action heated up inside of Metheny Fieldhouse last week. As it turned out, the menâ??s and womenâ??s basketball teams were each headed in a different direction. The menâ??s team picked up victories in games against Saint Vincent and Penn State Beaver, while the women dropped a pair of games to St. Vincent and Chatham. At the end of the week, Genevaâ??s men had moved back to the .500 mark at 7-7 while the women fell to 5-8 on the season.

On Saturday, Genevaâ??s women battled Chatham into double overtime before falling by the final score of 73-68. Senior Renee Rawding recorded a season high 30 points in the loss on the same night she was recognized for surpassing the 1000 point plateau back in December. Rawding was 11-18 from the field including a pair of three point field goals in overtime that brought Geneva to the brink of victory before Chatham pulled away. The effort on Saturday was much improved from a disappointing 81-45 loss to Saint Vincent on Thursday night. Geneva will look to end its current three game slide with games at Grove City and Westminster later this week.

Genevaâ??s men were simply happy to be back in Pennsylvania. After suffering six consecutive losses in games played outside the Keystone state earlier in the year, the Golden Tornadoes found Metheny Fieldhouse to be quite friendly. Geneva took care of Saint Vincent and Penn State Beaver in fairly easy fashion to get back to a 7-7 overall record. Rich Colick led Geneva with 16 points against Saint Vincent and 14 points in the win against Penn State Beaver. Bryan Hill gave the Golden Tornadoes a lift off the bench with a combined five three-point field goals on the week. The Golden Tornadoes now turn their attention to rivalry week one with road games at Grove City and Westminster later in the week. Grove City and Westminster are the two programs that Geneva has battled more than any other school. This week, Geneva will play Grove City for the 144th time and will face Westminster for the 202nd time. Both rivalries date back to the late 1800â??s.
