When the menâ??s and womenâ??s indoor track and field qualifiers head to Cedarville for the national indoor meet in February, it may be difficult not to confuse Genevaâ??s Josh Pollitt and Stephen Polite. On Friday evening, the indoor track and field season kicked off with a meet at Robert Morris University. Geneva was the only Division III competing and at the end of the day it walked away with eight NCCAA national qualifiers. In fact there was nobody confusing Pollitt and Polite after each qualified for a pair of NCCAA national events.

A total of seven men have already posted qualifying performances along with Aisha Mooreâ??s triple jump performance as the only female qualifier. Josh Pollitt qualified in the 55 meter hurdles and 55 meter dash. Stephen Polite qualified in the triple jump and the 55 meter dash. Corey Fraction turned in the best 55 meter dash time by qualifying at 6.64 seconds. Josh Moore also qualified for Geneva in the 55 meter event while Shaka Sydnor and Corey Fraction qualified in the long jump. Finally, Dan Dillman and Tyler French each posted qualifying throws in the shot put.

Genevaâ??s womenâ??s basketball team posted a 1-1 record last week with a win against Waynesburg and a hard fought loss against 22nd ranked Washington & Jefferson on Saturday. Both games turned into the Alyse Scarsella show as the sophomore forward posted back to back double-doubles. On Wednesday, she registered career highs in points and rebounds with 18 points to go along with 16 rebounds. She out did herself on Saturday with a 22 point performance in the loss to W & J. Geneva begins a new week with an overall record of 6-11 as it heads to the road against Thiel looking for its first road victory of the season.

Menâ??s head basketball coach Jeff Santarsiero could hardly believe his eyes on Saturday as his top three free throw shooters managed to miss seven consecutive in the final three minutes against W & J. Despite those hardships, Bryan Hill made everyone forget when his 28 foot jumper found the net with three seconds remaining to give the Golden Tornadoes a 70-69 win which stretched their win streak to six games. Rich Colick scored 24 points in the victory as he continues to lead the offense at 17.4 points per game. Geneva also defeated Waynesburg last week which was also the fifth consecutive game Geneva had held an opponent under 60 points. That was the first time a Geneva team had won five straight holding opponents under 60 points since 1936. Geneva takes its 11-7 overall record into a new week with games at Thiel on Wednesday and at home against Bethany on Saturday.

Following is the athletic schedule for the upcoming week:

Men's Basketball at Thiel 8 p.m.
Sat., Jan. 30 Women's Basketball vs Bethany 1 p.m.
