More success for the indoor track and field team on Friday while the basketball regular season enters its final week with still much to be determined.

Having just two games remaining on the regular season schedule, the menâ??s basketball team must win at least once to qualify for the NCCAA post-season and secure a .500 season. The Golden Tornadoes missed a chance to secure that victory on Saturday night in an overtime loss to Grove City. Bryan Hill made a pair of free throws in the final seconds of regulation to send the game into the extra session. After Rich Colick scored the first bucket of overtime, Grove City ran off ten straight points to put the game away. Colick led Geneva with 21 point and nine rebounds while Hill scored 19 including five three-point field goals. Geneva enters the final week with an overall record of 12-11 with a home game against Westminster and a season finale at Waynesburg on Saturday night.

Genevaâ??s women completed a busy three-game week on Saturday with a 62-48 loss to Grove City. Alyse Scarsella continued her outstanding season with 20 points and nine rebounds to pace the Golden Tornadoes. On Wednesday, Geneva finally secured its first road victory of the season after losing ten straight to open the season. Scarsella had 16 points in that victory while Christine Carugati came off the bench to score 14 points. Genevaâ??s week opened with a make-up contest against Saint Vincent that did not turn out well with a lopsided loss in Latrobe. Geneva has an overall record of 8-15 with two games remaining on the season.

A total of nine track and field athletes have qualified for the NCCAA Indoor Nationals this weekend. Joining the list of qualifiers on Friday was Nick Edinger in the 5K event. Edinger posted a qualifying time of 16:25 to join his teammates at nationals. Meanwhile, Stephen Polite qualified in the long jump with a distance of 20â??3â?? to add a third event to his already impressive national qualifying resume. Polite is also qualified in the 55 meter dash and triple jump.

Other highlights from the Baldwin-Wallace meet included Shaka Sydnorâ??s 8th place overall finish in the long jump and Tyler Frenchâ??s nine place toss in the shot put. On the womenâ??s side, Shannon Rech finished fifth overall in the 3K with a time of 11:29 while teammate Julia Urbanski finished eighth in the 800 meter race.

Genevaâ??s basketball teams close out the home schedule on Wednesday night against rival Westminster College. In addition to honoring the senior class of 2010, the Golden Tornadoes will also take a few moments to recognize the outstanding career of former head coach Ron Galbreath. Come out and support the Golden Tornadoes and for Coach G this Wednesday night.
