The transition from winter to spring is almost complete in terms of Geneva athletics. The lone exception is the NCCAA play-off run by the menâ??s basketball team. The Golden Tornadoes shocked NAIA Roberts Wesleyan last Wednesday night with what was perhaps their best effort of the season. Geneva dismantled the Raiders to the tune of 71-63 which vaulted the Golden Tornadoes into the NCCAA east regional finals. Rich Colick led the way with 17 points leaving himself only four points shy of the 1000 point plateau for his career. Bryan Hill hit four three-point field goals for 12 points and Brandon Harvey had 16 points and three assists. With an overall record of 15-11, Geneva will host the regional championship most likely on Saturday against Nyack College. Nyack must first complete its NCAA Division II post-season requirements before heading to Beaver Falls. A confirmed date and time for the game will be forthcoming later this week.

In the excitement of the semi-final victory, almost overlooked was Jeff Santarsieroâ??s 299th career coaching victory. Obviously, #300 could be quite sweet for Coach Jeff and the Golden Tornadoes.

The spring athletic seasons are upon us but it will take both the baseball and softball teams traveling to Florida to open the season. Both teams will be heading south this weekend with the openers for both coming next Monday, March 8. The outdoor track and field season will open after spring break on March 23 at Grove City College.

Following is the athletic schedule for the upcoming week:

Tentative:
Sat., March 7 Men's Basketball vs Nyack (NCCAA East Regional Championship)
