Genevaâ??s track and field team put on a pair of impressive performances to start the week while the softball team enjoyed some late inning heroics on Saturday. Genevaâ??s baseball team opened PAC play over the weekend following a dramatic ninth inning comeback victory earlier in the week.

The track and field season opened early last week with the Golden Tornadoes visiting Grove City. Stephen Polite stole the show with five top three performances including a first place finish in the triple jump. Womenâ??s highlights included Aisha Mooreâ??s top finish in the 200 meter dash along with Julia Urbanskiâ??s first place effort in the 1500 meter race and Kayla Jacksonâ??s top spot in the shot put. On Saturday, Geneva went up against Muskingum and turned in some more impressive finishes. Tyler French and Dan Dillman each qualified for the NCCAA nationals in the shot put and discus. French won the shot put while Dillman won the discus. The womenâ??s team defeated Muskingum with Moore scoring in an incredible six separate events. Mallory Hunsinger won the 400 meter hurdles and finished second in the 100 meter hurdles.

Genevaâ??s softball team went 3-1 on the week capped by a doubleheader sweep over Ursuline on Saturday by scores of 8-7 and 5-3. Adriane Blake stole the show with a pair of two run homers, one in each end of the doubleheader. Her first homer tied the game in the bottom of the seventh setting the stage for a game winning sacrifice fly by Leanne Abate. In game two, Blake hit a two run blast in the bottom of the eighth for the game winner. In game two, Blake was 4-4 with all five RBIâ??s. Julie DiLonardo won both ends of the doubleheader in the circle and now has seven victories on the season. Geneva ended the week with an overall record of 8-10 with PAC games set to begin this weekend.

The baseball team opened the week in dramatic fashion with a five-run ninth inning to seal an 11-9 comeback victory over Grove City on Wednesday night. Jon Jurinkoâ??s bases clearing triple with two outs in the ninth gave Geneva the lead that Phil Shallenberger saved in the bottom of the inning. The momentum did not last for Geneva as it dropped three straight to Bethany in the first PAC action of the year over the weekend. Joe Jurinko did blast a solo homer in Fridayâ??s game, but it was not enough in a 10-8 loss. The week ended with Geneva holding an overall record of 8-7.
