As the school year has come to a close so too has the athletic year for the Golden Tornadoes. The track and field team officially ended the athletic year with 16 student-athletes competing at the NCCAA national meet on Saturday. The softball team ended its chances for post-season play last Monday and the baseball team saw its season close out at the end of last week.

Genevaâ??s softball team needed a pair of wins on the final day of the season to have a chance to qualify for the NCCAA national tournament. The Golden Tornadoes got one victory but lost the season finale in ten innings to fall just short. Leanne Abate hit a dramatic three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra frames, but Geneva dropped a 7-4 decision to Thiel in the finale. The Golden Tornadoes came up just one win shy of a .600 winning percentage at 23-17 for a chance to accept an at-large bid to the national tournament.

Genevaâ??s track and field team was well represented at the NCCAA national meet on Saturday with 16 participating student-athletes. Six of those athletes returned home with top ten performances. On the menâ??s side, Tyler French posted top tens in the shot put and discus while teammate Dan Dillman also placed in the top ten in the shot. Monas Cunningham finished eighth in the final heat of the 110 meter hurdles. For the women, Shannon Rech finished seventh in the 3000 meter steeplechase and Aisha Moore was ninth in the triple jump. In womenâ??s throws, Kayla Jackson made her first national meet appearance and finished eighth in the javelin.

Thank you for your continued support of the Golden Tornadoes throughout the year. We look forward to another successful campaign in the fall of 2010!
