It was a picturesque homecoming weekend across Genevaâ??s campus. A record crowd at Reeves Field was entertained by the highest scoring game in Geneva football history. Unfortunately, the visitorâ??s side of the scoreboard was using a few more bulbs than was Genevaâ??s. Despite a 55-42 loss to Waynesburg, the homecoming crowd was given an up close view of one of the most impressive individual performances in school history. Senior running back Gerard Muschette put on quite a show for the 7,045 fans that took in the game on Saturday. Tying a school record with five touchdowns, Muschette scored on three running plays and added a pair of touchdown receptions. At the end of the day, the senior back had tallied 226 yards on the ground and an additional 38 yards receiving. Somewhere along the line, Muschette surpassed the 3000 yard mark for his career as only the fourth running back in Genevaâ??s 120 year history to do so. Geneva and Waynesburg combined for a school record 97 points breaking the mark of 93 combined points set by Geneva and Westminster in 1980. With the loss, Geneva fell back to 3-3 for the season and is still in search of its first home win of the year.

Mandee Craft saw her womenâ??s tennis team clinch its third consecutive winning season. With only one match this past week, the Golden Tornadoes cruised to an 8-1 victory over Pitt-Bradford and thus clinching yet another winning campaign. The victory moved Geneva to 7-5 for the season with only one match remaining on the regular season schedule. Chelsea Cover and Kara Zimmerman teamed up for a doubles victory to open the match and then moved on to separate victories in singles action. Geneva won all six singles matches in straight sets. In addition to Cover and Zimmerman, other winners included Alison Beattie, Amy Weller, Cassandra Califf and Julie Kline.

A busy work week for the menâ??s soccer team may have finally caught up with the Golden Tornadoes. After victories over Muskingum and Thiel to open the week, Geneva saw its eight game winning streak come to an end with a 1-0 loss at Grove City on Friday. Jake McCracken scored the overtime game winner in the victory over Muskingum and then teamed up with Chris Morschl and Teddy Kryswiecki as goal scorers in Genevaâ??s 3-1 victory over Thiel on Wednesday night. Finishing the week with a 10-2-1 overall record, the Golden Tornadoes will spend the next couple of weeks on the road with just the season finale against Saint Vincent on October 30th left on the home schedule.

Genevaâ??s womenâ??s soccer team split a pair of matches this past week with a 1-0 win over Thiel and a 5-0 loss at Grove City. Just over a minute into the Thiel match, Elise Mann scored on a breakaway on what seemed to be the first of many scoring plays. As it turned out, Mannâ??s goal was the only tally of the night as Geneva held on for a 1-0 win as Lauren Londino picked up her 25th career shut-out. The Golden Tornadoes are sitting at 9-2-3 for the season.

In cross country action this past Saturday, Geneva was back on the course at Carnegie Mellon University. The women placed eighth overall including victories over all the PAC schools that were competing. Julia Urbanski and Alayna Merkle each finished in the top 20 for the women. Merkle came across the line with the third best freshmen time in a very competitive field. In menâ??s action, the Golden Tornadoes finished 11th overall with wins overall the PAC schools with the exception of Saint Vincent. The highlight performance of the day was turned in by Andrew Maienshein. With a steady improvement each week, Maienshein ran a personal best time of 29:28 at CMU on Saturday. For the season, a total of nine runners have already qualified for the NCCAA national meet. On the menâ??s side, Nick Edinger, Jon Shope, Ryan Thorn, Owen Struck and Jacob Beschner have qualified. For the women, Julia Urbanski, Alayna Merkle, Shannon Rech and Samantha Miller will also be making the trip to nationals.

The womenâ??s volleyball broken record continues to play with â??Yesâ??, another perfect week. With only two matches, the Golden Tornadoes quickly took care of Bethany and Chatham to move its current winning streak to nine matches and improving their overall record to 18-2. Geneva sits just two victories shy of the best start in school history. The 1976 womenâ??s volleyball team finished the year at 20-2 and then put together a 20-3 season in 1977. Deanna Briody had a very solid week with nearly 13 assists per game in Genevaâ??s two victories. Adriane Blake and Rachel Kuegler each had 20 kills with Maggie Bowersox checking in with 18 kills and four blocks. The Golden Tornadoes travel to W & J on Wednesday before its most important weekend of the season at the NCCAA east regional tournament at Roberts Wesleyan on Friday and Saturday.
