This script may have been even difficult for Hollywood to buy. The 2010 football finale turned out to be one for the ages, both in terms of the game itself and in the fact that the 4,500+ fans on hand had the opportunity to witness history. While Geneva and Westminster were busy thrilling fans in Beaver Falls, the menâ??s and womenâ??s cross country teams were busy making some history of their own at the NCCAA national meet at Cedarville University.

All week long leading up to the football finale, senior running back Gerard Muschette answered questions about the potential of breaking the schoolâ??s all-time rushing record. Time and time again, the answer was always the same. â??All we want to do is beat Westminster.â?? Early in the fourth quarter, Muschette took care of his individual business by surpassing Melvin Cobbs on the all-time rushing list. It took a bit longer for him and his teammates to take care of that team â??Up Northâ??. In the third overtime, Muschette took a hand-off from David Girardi for the final time in their careers and rambled 17 yards for the game winning touchdown. â??Mission accomplishedâ??. Muschette finished the game with 190 yards and 3891 yards for his career making him the schoolâ??s all-time leading rusher. What made the day even more special was the fact that both previous record holders, Melvin Cobbs and Willie Murray, were on the sideline to congratulate Muschette for his accomplishments. In what was an only fitting ending to an amazing game and an amazing career, Muschette crossed the goal line with his record 45th career touchdown to help Geneva avoid only its fourth losing season under Geno DeMarco while also avoiding a winless season at home.

Senior defensive end Adam Rose opened the scoring with an 81 yard fumble recovery and touchdown return while senior Nick DiPietro connected on his 28th career field goal to tie the game in the final seconds of regulation. Geneva finished the season with an overall record of 5-5 and will hold bragging rights against the Titans for the next 365 days.

Not to be outdone the cross country teams put on perhaps the finest performance in school history on the national stage. On Saturday, both the menâ??s and womenâ??s teams finished sixth nationally against a field of the best the NCCAA had to offer. In menâ??s action, freshman Jon Shope had the performance of a life time finishing 10th overall and garnering NCCAA All-American honors with a finish of 26:54 breaking the school record for a sub-27:00 minute 8K race. Ryan Thorn (37) and Nick Edinger (47) each finished in the top 50 with Owen Struck coming close with a 52nd place finish.

Julia Urbanski led the women with a 25th place finish as just one of five Geneva women to finish in the top 70. Shannon Rech (38), Alayna Merkle (46), Sarah Davis (59) and Samantha Miller (65) all gave strong performances to help Geneva to its best national finish in school history.

The fall season is far from over as the NCCAA post-season is set to kick off with the menâ??s soccer team hosting Roberts Wesleyan on Thursday at 5 p.m. for the East regional semi-finals. Should Geneva advance to the finals, it would either travel to Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Saturday or host Nyack depending on the outcome of the other semi-final match-up. The womenâ??s soccer team will also be participating in the East regional semi-finals this week on the road at Roberts Wesleyan. The Golden Tornadoes will travel to play the Raiders on Wednesday at 5 p.m. with the winner advancing to take on either Mt. Vernon or Malone in the regional final on Saturday. As for the volleyball team and its 26-5 overall record, it should find out its fate later this week as the national at-large bids will be handed out.

With the fall season approaching its ending, the winter season is already here. The womenâ??s basketball team opens the 2010-11 season tonight at the LaRoche College tournament while the menâ??s basketball team opens its schedule on Friday night in the first round of the Tip-Tournament beginning at 8 p.m.
