Don't expect Geneva head football coach Geno DeMarco to get a very nice graduation present for Gerard Muschette. In fact, the Golden Tornadoesâ?? leader may look for ways to sneak that #22 jersey onto the field next fall. The senior running back continues to rewrite the football record book after posting the most productive day for a running back in school history on Saturday. The womenâ??s volleyball team went 3-0 (yawn) last week while both soccer teams ended their regular seasons with split results. Cross country coach Brian Yowler was thrilled with the results his teams came away with at the PAC championships on Saturday afternoon. All in all, it was just another solid week of athletics throughout the Golden Tornadoesâ?? department.

Knute Rockne has nothing on Geno DeMarco. With the Golden Tornadoes trailing 6-0 at halftime to winless Thiel, DeMarco reached into his bag of speeches and came away with a zinger. Geneva posted 34 second half points in defeating the Tomcats 34-20 to improve to 4-5 on the season. Gerard Muschette came into the game needing 410 yards to tie the schoolâ??s all-time rushing mark. Perhaps someone forgot to tell him that he still had another game to try and reach the mark. Muschette picked up a single game record 302 yards on the ground with 250 of those yards coming in the second half. He also crossed the goal line four times in breaking the school record with 44 career touchdowns to his credit. The defense came up big for the third straight week in holding the Tomcats to 20 points and allowing the offense to take control of the game. Geneva will enjoy its only off week of the season before preparing for the season finale on November 13th against rival Westminster.

Hereâ??s a news flash, the Geneva volleyball team had another perfect week. Although it may sound like a broken record, it is really the fact that the 2010 squad has now put together the best season in school history. With a 3-0 victory over Saint Vincent last Tuesday, the Golden Tornadoes broke the single season record for victories. At weekâ??s end, Geneva had added two more wins to the tally and finished the regular season with a mark of 26-5. The previous record of 23 wins was set back in 1986 and stood for 24 years. Seniors Adriane Blake and Laura Zerbe were honored prior to Thursdayâ??s victory over Grove City and each played a significant role in dispatching the Wolverines for the second time this season. Blake took over Genevaâ??s match at Saint Vincent on Tuesday with eight of her 18 kills coming in the final game. Helped once again by the play of Brianna Mixter at the libero spot and Deanna Briody at setter, Geneva finished the season clicking on all cylinders. All that is left for Geneva is to wait for word from the NCCAA in the next few weeks as to whether it has done enough to earn the schoolâ??s first NCCAA national tournament bid.

The Geneva menâ??s soccer team sent its senior class off with a positive memory on Saturday night. The Golden Tornadoes defeated Saint Vincent 2-0 to improve to 14-2-2 at the end of the regular season. Seniors Matt Weaver, Jeremy Peachey, Chris Morschl, Bruce Fox, Kenton Burckhart and Gabe Kleinert enjoyed their final match at the Merriman Athletic Complex. Coming on the heels of a 2-1 win at Waynesburg, the Golden Tornadoes got goals from Caleb Musselman and Josh Mann to turn away Saint Vincent in the season finale. Evan Biedenbach registered his third shut-out of the season and picked up his 14th victory of the year. Already having qualified for the NCCAA East region tournament, Geneva will now play the waiting game until the dates and participants are determined in the coming weeks.

It was a frustrating end to the womenâ??s soccer season on Saturday night. Out playing Saint Vincent for most of the night, the Golden Tornadoes watched the Bearcats score the only goal of the game three minutes into the second overtime period to steal a 1-0 victory away from Geneva. Despite the efforts of senior goalkeeper Lauren Londino, Geneva was unable to find the net despite several outstanding chances. It was another scoreless week for Geneva womenâ??s soccer as they dropped another 1-0 decision to Waynesburg earlier in the week. Geneva finished the regular season at 10-7-3 including shut-out losses in six of the last seven matches. Like the menâ??s team, Geneva has already qualified for the NCCAA regional tournament and will wait to find out who and when they will open for post-season play.

Genevaâ??s cross country teams had been targeting this date for the entire season. It was time for the menâ??s and womenâ??s teams to get out the measuring stick and find out exactly how they stacked up against the rest of the Presidentsâ?? Athletic Conference at the PAC championships on Saturday. At the end of the day, there were smiles all around as both teams qualified for the NCCAA national tournament with third place finishes in both menâ??s and womenâ??s action. Individually, Nick Edinger for the men and Julia Urbanski for the women each finished in the top ten and earned PAC coachâ??s honors for their efforts. Both teams will now prepare for the national stage as they will be competing at Cedarville University on November 13 at the NCCAA national meet.

The regular season has ended for all of the fall athletic teams with the exception of football which will enjoy its only bye week of the season. The menâ??s and womenâ??s basketball teams are still a couple weeks away from opening their new seasons. As a result, there are no athletic games scheduled for the upcoming week.
