It was a reversal of fortune for the Geneva basketball teams this past week. Heading into the week, neither team on Genevaâ??s campus had won a basketball game away from the comforts of Metheny Fieldhouse with the exception of a neutral site victory early in the year for the womenâ??s team. Conversely, neither team had lost a game at home. Those results were reversed this past week with the men winning twice on the road and falling at home while the women split a pair of games including their first true road victory of the season.

The week opened with Genevaâ??s men cruising past Penn State Beaver in Monaca by the score of 79-56. It was another long distance party for the Golden Tornadoes with 11 three-point field goals. David Phillips was a perfect 5-5 in the game and scored a team best 17 points. Bryan Hill continued his hot shooting with five three-point field goals of his own. On Wednesday, Geneva shocked 22nd ranked Malone in Canton by the score of 81-77. Playing their old time NAIA rivals, the Golden Tornadoes used a 52 point second half to upset the Pioneers. Richard Colick scored 26 points and Lambros Svingos posted a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. The winning did not continue back at home on Saturday as the Golden Tornadoes dropped a 76-62 decision to visiting Bethany for the first home loss of the season. A 14-0 second half run by the Bison proved to be the difference as the Golden Tornadoes take a 6-3 record into the two-week holiday break. Geneva will be back in action on December 29-30 at the Case Western Reserve tournament.

Genevaâ??s women opened the week with an easy 70-45 victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny in a rematch from an earlier victory this season. Alyse Scarsella paced the offense with 20 points in only 15 minutes of action. Jasman Papa came off the bench to score 12 points while Beth DeLuca added 11 in the victory. On Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes dropped their first home game of the season to Bethany by the score of 67-59. Despite 18 more points from Scarsella and 13 from Valerie Hamilton, Geneva could not overcome a poor shooting second half. Geneva has a 5-4 overall record and will not be back in action until a trip to Carlow University on December 30.

There are no athletic events scheduled for the upcoming week.
