While the rest of the campus enjoyed some holiday rest and relaxation, the menâ??s and womenâ??s basketball teams were hard at work putting together a perfect week in the win column. Genevaâ??s women won their only game of the week at Carlow University while the menâ??s team managed to bring home the tournament trophy from Case Western Reserve with a pair of wins last week.

In womenâ??s action, Geneva managed to slip past Carlow University 42-36 in Pittsburgh last Thursday night. It was the lowest winning point total for a Geneva womenâ??s team since the schoolâ??s first ever intercollegiate victory in 1972. Despite the low score, the Golden Tornadoes moved to 6-4 on the season marking their best start to a season in three years. Leah Prisuta led the way with ten points and a career best nine steals while Valerie Hamilton chipped in with nine points. Geneva held Carlow to just 13 first half points and was able to hold off a charging Celtics team in the second half to secure the victory. The Golden Tornadoes are now set to get back into PAC action with a busy three game week beginning on Monday night against nationally ranked Thomas More at Metheny Fieldhouse.

Genevaâ??s men posted a pair of victories at the Case Western Reserve Tournament last week to secure the tournament championship. With victories over Kalamazoo (84-78) and Case Western (71-64) the Golden Tornadoes improved to 8-3 to start the season. Richard Colick continued his impressive season by capturing tournament MVP honors. Colick scored 29 points in the opening round victory and then recorded 18 more points in the championship round. Teammate David Phillips was named to the All-Tournament team with 11 points in both games and a team best eight rebounds in the championship. Genevaâ??s 8-3 start is its best start since the 2000-2001 campaign.
