The number of student-athletes qualifying for the NCCAA National Indoor track and field meet continues to rise for the Golden Tornadoes after another solid outing at Baldwin-Wallace on Friday. The menâ??s basketball team picked up two more victories last week while the women dropped a pair of PAC contests heading into the final week of the regular season.

The number of Geneva student-athletes headed to Indiana Wesleyan has risen to 13 following a solid showing at Baldwin-Wallace. In a meet that didn't conclude until well after 1 a.m. on Friday night, Geneva added five more athletes to the qualifying list. On the womenâ??s side, Shannon Rech qualified in the 3000 meter event while the menâ??s qualifiers featured Tyler French (Shot put), Nick Edinger (3000 meter), Wes Marquis (55 meter) and Ryan White (55 meter). Edinger also qualified in the 5000 meter event earlier this winter. Other highlights from the meet included Aisha Mooreâ??s third place overall finish in the triple jump and Genevaâ??s 4 x 200 menâ??s relay team comprised of Ryan White, John-Henry Jarwood, Stephen Polite and Corey Fraction, bringing home the first place trophy.

In womenâ??s basketball, Geneva struggled to a pair of PAC losses last week to Chatham and Grove City. In both cases, it was a second half collapse that proved to be the difference. The Golden Tornadoes were within striking distance in both games at the half but lost 60-48 to Chatham and fell 60-38 at Grove City. Beth DeLuca scored a game high 17 points against Chatham while senior Christine Carugati added 13 points at Grove City. The Golden Tornadoes will close out their season this week with a game at Westminster on Wednesday and then the home finale on Saturday night against Waynesburg.

Richard Colick could easily be considered the PAC menâ??s basketball player of the year. He wonâ??t win that distinction because of Genevaâ??s provisional status, but don't tell his teammates or coaches that heâ??s not the most valuable player in the league. Colick stepped up big time again this past week with a pair of solid performances. On 9-13 shooting on Monday night, Colick posted 23 points in Genevaâ??s 84-62 victory over Penn State Beaver. On Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes escaped a frantic Grove City rally for a 61-58 victory. Colick scored 20 points in the victory including six of the last eight points and a perfect 7-7 from the foul line. Lambros Svingos chipped in with his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 14 rebounds against Grove City. Geneva takes a 17-6 overall record into the final week of the regular season. That mark is among the best records to this point of the season since Jeff Santarsiero took over the program in 1995.

Following is the athletic schedule for the upcoming week:

Men's Basketball at Westminster 8 p.m.
Sat., Feb. 19 Indoor Track - NCCAA National Championships at Indiana Wesleyan 10 a.m.
