The wet and cold weather continues to play havoc on the spring athletic schedules. While the baseball and softball teams continue to rearrange their respective schedules, the track and field team just keeps plugging along with some outstanding individual performances.

The baseball team did manage to get four games in last week with positive results in only one of those contests. Geneva split a doubleheader with Ohio Christian last Wednesday with Matt Baer picking up the complete game victory as it took the Golden Tornadoes extra innings for the victory. Mike Jeffries drove in the game winning run in the ninth inning to seal the victory. Baer picked up his third win of the season. Losses to Westminster and Waynesburg on Thursday and Friday dropped Genevaâ??s overall record to 14-13 with still much work to be done. Weather permitting, Geneva is scheduled for seven games in the next six days.

In softball, the Golden Tornadoes won three of four games and moved to 18-8 on the season. Receiving the news early in the week of its #4 national ranking in the NCCAA, Geneva proceeded to split a doubleheader with Baldwin-Wallace before sweeping a doubleheader against Washington & Jefferson. Julie DiLonardo picked up the pitching victories in each of the three victories and now has 14 victories on the season. Ashley Davis grabbed five RBIâ??s in the sweep over W & J. Christina Fuquaâ??s three-run double in the first game against Baldwin-Wallace proved to be the back breaker in the victory. Geneva has now won 11 of its last 13 games since returning from Florida.

The track and field team had a busy week with a pair of meets at Westminster. Julia Urbanski on the womenâ??s side and Dan Dillman for the men got top billing. Urbanski won the 1500 meter event at both meets and finished second in the 800 meter event on both days. Dillman, meanwhile, took home three first place honors by sweeping the shot put events and also winning the discus event last Wednesday in New Wilmington. Genevaâ??s distance runners continued to shine with Sarah Davis winning the top spot in the 10000 meter event on Saturday and Nick Edinger taking home the top prize in the menâ??s 5000 meter race.

Other winners in Wednesdayâ??s meet included Shannon Rech (3000 meter steeplechase), Emily Crain (long jump) and Kathryn Regalado (shot put) for the women. On the menâ??s side, Ryan White won the 200 meter race and then teamed up with John-Henry Jarwood, Wes Marquis and Aaron Marga to win the menâ??s 4 x 100 meter relay.
