Genevaâ??s track and field team continues to grow up under the watchful eye of first year head coach Brian Yowler. The Geneva baseball team finally saw its offense explode in salvaging a split with Grove City while the softball team surprised first place Thomas More with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday.

Leading the way for Genevaâ??s women in track and field was again sophomore Aisha Moore. Moore posted three top ten finishes including a second place overall spot in the triple jump which was good enough for her to qualify in her third event for the NCCAA national meet in May. Moore posted a 10.03 meter distance in the triple jump while also performing well with a fifth place finish in the 400 meter race and an eighth spot in the long jump. Other top female performances included Julia Urbanskiâ??s NCCAA qualifying time of 2:26.45 which was good enough for third place in the 800 meter event. Bethany Podnar turned in season best performances in the discus and javelin which were good enough for a pair of top ten finishes. Kayla Jackson followed suit in the throwing event with a fourth, fifth and sixth place finish respectively in the javelin, shot put and discus. Finally, Mallory Hunsinger turned in a pair of top five efforts in the 400 meter hurdles and the 100 meter hurdles.

The menâ??s team was equally as impressive on Saturday. Dan Dillman was again the top thrower on the roster with a second place finish in the shot put and third in the discus. Genevaâ??s lone first place finisher of the day came in the menâ??s 10K race where Nick Edinger took the top spot with an NCCAA qualifying time of 34:04. Wes Marquis shined in a pair of sprinting events with two top five performances in the 100 and 200 meter events. Genevaâ??s Josh Tanis also turned in a third place finish in the 400 meter hurdles.

Geneva will continue the maturation process with a pair of meets coming up this week. On Wednesday, Geneva will travel to PAC foe Bethany before heading to Baldwin-Wallace next Saturday.

Geneva finally saw its offense come alive in the second game of Saturdayâ??s doubleheader with Grove City. After falling 5-1 in game one for their third straight loss of the week, the Golden Tornadoes exploded for 11 first inning runs en route to a 17-6 victory over the Wolverines. Phil Shallenberger led the charge with four of Genevaâ??s 17 hits in the contest. A total of six Geneva starters finished the game with multiple hits with seven players coming up with at least one RBI. Matt Baer won his second consecutive start on the mound and improved to 3-3 on the year. Geneva ended the week with an overall record of 10-17 as they welcome Grove City to 33rd Street Field for a make-up game on Monday before games with Westminster and Waynesburg later in the week.

Geneva posted a 3-1 record last week after splitting a doubleheader with W & J and surprising first place Thomas More with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. Julie DiLonardo was a perfect 3-0 in the circle to move her record to 14-7 on the year. DiLonardo is 10-1 in her last 11 decisions. She also was effective at the plate as she smacked a grand slam in game two against Thomas More to lead Genevaâ??s 13 run offensive outburst. In game one on Saturday, Leanne Abate provided the late inning heroics with a game tying solo homer in the bottom of the seventh to set the stage for Samantha Michettiâ??s game winning double in the bottom of the eighth. Geneva moved to 15-13 on the season with a hefty six game schedule coming up this week.
