Another week dominated by the weather finished with a bang on Saturday as the baseball team took care of business against Bethany. On Thursday, the track and field team again turned in some outstanding performances at Westminster while the softball team split its four games played between the rain drops.

Genevaâ??s softball team split a pair of PAC doubleheaders against Grove City and Saint Vincent. The trend of winning game one and losing game two continued in both cases. Geneva has now won the first and lost the second seven times in 2011. On Wednesday, Julie DiLonardo sparkled in game one with a complete game shut-out against Grove City. Adriane Blake went 4-4 in game one to lead Geneva to a 6-0 victory. The Wolverines came back for a 6-2 win in game two. A similar story was written on Thursday as DiLonardo picked up another complete game shut-out in a 3-0 victory against Saint Vincent. Game two was again a different story as the Bearcats defeated Geneva 5-0 to earn the split. It was only the 12th home loss for Geneva since opening its new on-campus field four years ago.

Geneva ended the week with an overall record of 20-10 as it prepares for an eight-game week to end the regular season. It also appears that the Golden Tornadoes will be receiving and automatic bid to the NCCAA national tournament in Virginia. It will be Genevaâ??s first appearance on the national stage in five years.

The baseball team enjoyed an outstanding day on Saturday as the rain stopped long enough to take a doubleheader from Bethany College by scores of 11-4 and 2-1. The sweep moved Genevaâ??s overall record to 17-14 with another busy week ahead. Doug Sanson has been outstanding on the mound in recent outings and last week he picked up a pair of complete game victories. For the week, Sanson tossed 14 innings and allowed just nine hits and three earned runs. In Genevaâ??s victory over Waynesburg, Jon Jurinko and Adam Scheiderer each hit solo home runs to provide the offense. On Saturday, Geneva banged out 12 hits in game one. RBIâ??s from Mike Jeffreys and Jon Bushmire in game two were enough to pick up the victory.

Genevaâ??s track and field team once again traveled to New Wilmington last Thursday for a mini-meet. An unscored team meet still provided several outstanding individual performances. For the women, Julia Urbanski took first place honors in the 1500 meter event with a mark of 4:45.63, which was more than 15 seconds better than the next closest competitor. Shannon Rech won the 5000 meter event with teammate Sarah Davis coming in with a close second. Aisha Moore won the triple jump while Emily Crain took second place in the long jump.

In menâ??s action, Ryan White won the 200 meter event with Wes Marquis finishing just .05 seconds behind in second place. Chez Anderson and Owen Struck finished one-two in the 800 meter race while Nick Edinger continued his dominance with another first place finish in the 5000 meter race. Nathan Mansor won the 3000 meter steeplechase with Dan Dillman taking first place in both the shot put and the discus. Genevaâ??s 4 x 100 relay team of Ryan White, Wes Marquis, Aaron Marga and John-Henry Jarwood also took first place. The team will now prepare this week for the PAC championships at Bethany College this coming Saturday.
