To play one of Genevaâ??s soccer teams right now is now a very friendly proposition for opponents across the region. The menâ??s and womenâ??s soccer teams at Geneva have combined for an early season record of 10-1-2. Another perfect week for both teams highlighted a solid performance from the Golden Tornadoes yet again. While the football team came up on the short end of the scoreboard against the two-time defending PAC champions, the womenâ??s volleyball team continued its hot start with two wins in three tries throughout the week. The womenâ??s tennis team won one of three matches while the cross country teams enjoyed a much deserved weekend away from the course.

When the football schedule came out last spring, it was quite apparent that there was going to be some tough challenges for the Golden Tornadoes in the early going. The Golden Tornadoes dropped their second consecutive home game on Saturday. Two-time defending PAC champion Thomas More proved to be too much in a 36-20 decision over the Golden Tornadoes. Despite two more Gerard Muschette touchdowns, a career best 132 receiving yards from Corey Oâ??Patchen and a pair of David Girardi touchdown passes, Geneva could not overcome a pair of turnovers and a Thomas More rushing attack that may be one of the best in the nation. Geneva fell to 1-2 on the season and will now head to the road for back to back games away from Reeves Field.

In womenâ??s tennis, Geneva dropped a match to Westminster early in the week before making the long trek to Kentucky for matches against Thomas More and Asbury. The Golden Tornadoes prevailed by the score of 5-4 against the Saints with Julie Kline providing the heroics in the victory. Kline and Alyssa Kuhn won their doubles match before Kline rallied from a set down to pick up a victory in singles that proved to be the difference in Genevaâ??s one point victory. The Golden Tornadoes dropped an 8-1 decision to Asbury on Saturday with Maura McLaughlin picking up the lone victory. Geneva ended the week with an overall record of 3-4 and will return home for matches on Thursday and Friday of the upcoming week.

The womenâ??s volleyball team improved to 10-2 on the season with victories in two of its three matches this week. Opening with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Westminster on Wednesday, the Golden Tornadoes had the trick turned against them in a 3-2 loss at Bethany on Saturday. Despite that loss, Adriane Blake threw down 23 kills and Rachel Kuegler added 19 kills. The day ended with a victory over Grove City in straight sets with Maggie Bowersox leading the way with ten kills. Geneva hopes to get freshman setter Deanna Briody back sometime this week in preparation of its rematch with Frostburg State on Wednesday night.

Both soccer teams had weather affect them this week. On Thursday night, the womenâ??s soccer match with Point Park was postponed because of lightning and has been rescheduled for this upcoming Thursday. In Canton on the same night, a lightning storm caused the early stoppage to a menâ??s match between Geneva and Malone. Fortunately for the Golden Tornadoes, the match had reached the 73rd minute and was therefore official with Geneva taking the win 2-1. Josh Mann scored the eventual game winner. On Saturday, the menâ??s team exploded for four goals in a 4-1 victory over Heidelberg. David Harwood, Jake McCracken, Josh Mann and Caleb Musselman scored in the victory as the menâ??s team improved to 4-1-1 on the season.

The womenâ??s team remains unbeaten with an overall record of 6-0-1 and despite Thursday nightâ??s postponement, the Golden Tornadoes still enjoyed a special week. After a 10-0 rout of Penn State Beaver on Saturday, Geneva made an early Maura Allen goal hold up in a 1-0 win over Pitt-Bradford on Saturday. Allen leads Geneva with eight goals on the season as a total of 13 players have already found the net for the Golden Tornadoes. The big story of the week was once again the play of Lauren Londino. With Saturday nightâ??s shut-out, Londino picked up her 22nd career shut-out and broke Genevaâ??s all-time record.
