Here we go again with some incredible results from the Geneva College fall athletic teams. When you put the overall records together for each of the fall teams, the Golden Tornadoes have compiled an amazing 34-9-3 overall record for a winning percentage of .772. In the last six days, Geneva teams were unbeaten to the tune of 8-0-1. For the sports information director, the art of spinning a negative result into a positive story no longer applies. In fact, in games outside of the Presidentsâ?? Athletic Conference in 2010, the Golden Tornadoes boast a .822 winning percentage.

Why not begin with the most dramatic victory of the week and it just so happens to be the last game of the week. On Saturday night, the Geneva football team didn't have much go right in the first half. In fact, the Golden Tornadoes found themselves down 20-3 to Bethany before a frantic comeback and a goal line stand proved to be the difference. David Girardi connected on a pair of 40 yard touchdown passes to go along with an 88 yard strike to get Geneva the lead. For the game, the senior quarterback threw for 372 yards while Gerard Muschette scored again and rushed for 151 yards on 28 carries. Corey Oâ??Patchen (146 yards) and AJ Delmonico (106 yards) combined for 11 receptions and all three receiving scores. For as much offense as was on display, it was one defensive play that sealed the victory. Senior linebacker Chance Kelosky made the game saving tackle just six inches from the goal line on the final play of the game to get Geneva the victory and move its overall record to 2-2.

After a week away from competition, the Geneva cross country teams had another solid effort at Saint Vincent College. Despite the hardest week of practice, the Golden Tornadoes showed up in a big way. The menâ??s team finished second overall with its top five runners finishing in the top 40. Nick Edinger was third overall in a time of 27:03, which was nearly a minute faster than he ran on the same course last year. Other top finishers on the menâ??s side included Jon Shope (16), Ryan Thorn (20), Owen Struck (26) and Jacob Beschner (37). In womenâ??s action, Alayna Merkle and Julia Urbanski finished seventh and eighth respectively to lead Geneva to a fourth place finish. Competing without its top two female runners, Geneva still managed to score well on Saturday. Sarah Davis also gave a solid performance with a time of 21:48 and a 20th overall finish.

Someone should start taking notice to what the Geneva women are doing in volleyball and soccer. Quietly going about their business for the first month of the season, the volleyball team is 13-2 and the womenâ??s soccer team is yet to lose a match with an 8-0-2 overall mark. In volleyball this past week, Geneva defeated 13-1 Frostburg State and 11-2 Saint Vincent sandwiched around a victory against Washington & Jefferson. Senior outside hitter Adriane Blake is up to her old tricks with an average of over 14 kills in those three victories. Blake, a two-time NCCAA second team All-American, could be headed to a first team selection with her current success. Teammates Rachel Kuegler, Maggie Bowersox, Kirsten Ley and Kristland McCracken have all been solid. The return of freshman setter Deanna Briody pushed Brianna Mixter back to her normal libero spot and each player enjoyed a great week on the court.

Meanwhile, the womenâ??s soccer team went 2-0-1 this past week and moved to 8-0-2 for the season. The Golden Tornadoes defeated LaRoche 3-1 on the strength of a pair of goals from Rebecca Shaw. Shaw then broke a scoreless tie against Point Park as Geneva eventually defeated the Pioneers 2-0. On Saturday, Genevaâ??s first half goal from Maura Allen did not stand up and the Golden Tornadoes came home with a 1-1 overtime at Marietta. Allen is currently second in the entire NCCAA with her nine early season goals to lead the Geneva offense. Lauren Londino continues to shine in goal for Geneva with six shut-outs on the season and a school record 23 for her career.

The Geneva womenâ??s tennis team also enjoyed a perfect week with victories over Waynesburg and Thiel in impressive fashion. The Golden Tornadoes improved to 5-4 with a 7-2 win over Waynesburg and a 9-0 victory against Thiel. Genevaâ??s six singles matches were each straight set victories as the Golden Tornadoes yielded just five total games in those six wins. Cassandra Califf had a special day against Waynesburg as she picked up singles and doubles victories against the school in which she transferred to Geneva from two years ago. Chelsea Cover and Kara Zimmerman also pulled off the double victory trick against Waynesburg on Thursday.

Donâ??t look now but the Geneva menâ??s soccer team is hitting its mid-season stride. The Golden Tornadoes have won four straight matches and have pushed their overall record to 6-1-1. This past week, Geneva defeated LaRoche and Marietta. After a sluggish first half against LaRoche that saw the winless Redhawks take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. Head coach Gary Dunda will be selling copies of his halftime speech as the first year head coach motivated the Golden Tornadoes to a five goal second half in a 5-1 victory. Teddy Kryswiecki scored the tying and go ahead goals for the Golden Tornadoes as they exploded past the Redhawks. Kryswiecki and Jake McCracken each scored in Genevaâ??s 2-1 win at Marietta on Saturday and Evan Biedenbach picked up his sixth win in goal.
