Julie Kline will always have the distinction of being the first Geneva College student-athlete to compete in a Presidentsâ?? Athletic Conference final as she represented the Golden Tornadoes quite well at the PAC womenâ??s tennis championships. Kline made quite a memory for herself and the womenâ??s tennis team while the womenâ??s volleyball team is getting ready to make some memories of their own when they host the PAC volleyball championships thanks to the schoolâ??s first-ever regular season title. The menâ??s soccer team is battling for a home play-off game as it remained in second place in the PAC while the womenâ??s team is still seeking its first conference victory. While the cross country team was getting its final weekend of rest before the PAC championships, the football team was getting no such rest at Washington & Jefferson on Saturday.

Seven female student-athletes made the trip to Erie, PA this past weekend as the Geneva College womenâ??s tennis team became the first Golden Tornadoesâ?? program to take a shot at the post-season. Six of those seven players did not get through the first round of competition with the lone survivor making quite a splash on the conference stage. Julie Kline took a sub .500 record into the championships as she was slotted in the #4 singles bracket. On Friday, she opened her tournament with a straight sets victory to advance into the semi-final round. On Friday evening, Kline shocked her opponent from Saint Vincent after dropping her first set and rallying for a three set victory. The win on Friday put her into the flight championship match against Grove City on Saturday. Despite a loss in the finals, Kline made Geneva history as the first student-athlete to compete in a PAC championship in the first year of eligibility. The Golden Tornadoes ended their regular season with an overall record of 5-7 including a mark of 5-4 in conference play.

History was being made at Metheny Fieldhouse on Saturday night as the Geneva College womenâ??s volleyball team became the first Geneva program to record a regular season conference title. The Golden Tornadoes defeated both Westminster and Thomas More on Saturday to improve their conference record to 16-1 and officially clinch the regular season title, the top-seed in the conference tournament and home court advantage. Geneva posted a perfect 4-0 record last week as they moved their current winning streak to nine straight while winning 14 of the last 15. Maggie Bowersox and Kristland McCracken each finished the week with 44 kills while Rachel Kuegler added 40 kills in Genevaâ??s four matches. Fellow senior Brianna Mixter continues to lead the PAC in digs as she added 100 to her total last week. Sophomore setter Deanna Briody averaged nearly 11.5 assists in Genevaâ??s perfect week. With an overall record of 21-7 and a 16-1 conference mark, Geneva will close out the regular season on Thursday at Chatham before heading to Mount Vernon over the weekend for the NCCAA East Regional tournament. The Golden Tornadoes will host the PAC championships on November 4-5.

The Geneva menâ??s soccer team headed to Grove City on Saturday in a game that was to decided second place in the PAC and guarantee a post-season play-off game. At the end of the day, the conference standings were still quite murky as the teams posted a 1-1 double overtime tie. Jake McCrackenâ??s second half penalty kick goal tied the game and sent Geneva to a 5-1-1 PAC record with only one conference match remaining. The Golden Tornadoes have a 11-4-2 overall record including a 3-1 victory against Waynesburg earlier in the week. David Harwood, Jeb Nash and Teddy Krzywiecki each scored goals in the regular season home finale. Should Geneva and Grove City remain tied in the conference standings, the tie-breaker could come down to goal differential to decide second place and first round conference tournament home match.

The womenâ??s soccer team is seemingly limping to the finish line. The Golden Tornadoes have seen their offensive faucet shut-off in the month of October as they have dropped seven straight and remain winless in the PAC. Geneva dropped a 3-0 decision to Waynesburg and a 1-0 decision to Grove City last week as the Golden Tornadoes have now gone four straight without posting a goal. Senior goalkeeper Natalie Swartley made her first two career starts and faired quite well. She made five saves against Waynesburg and was very impressive at Grove City with a 12 save effort. Geneva will close out the regular season at Chatham and Thiel in the final week of the season. The Golden Tornadoes are sitting at 4-12-1 overall and 0-7 in the PAC.

After a weekend of rest, the Geneva cross country team finally is set for the post-season. The Golden Tornadoes head to Westminster on Saturday to officially compete in their first PAC championship meet. While Geneva has competed as the championships in each of the past four years, its results did not count due to Genevaâ??s provisional status. All that changes on Saturday as the Golden Tornadoes will be going up against the best that the PAC has to offer.

Genevaâ??s defense did all it could to cling to a one point first half lead at Washington & Jefferson on Saturday. The Presidentâ??s dominated field position in the first two quarters, but the Golden Tornadoes continued to turn them away. When Zack Hayward found Corey Oâ??Patchen on a 12-yard touchdown, Geneva took a 7-0 lead against W & J in search of its first victory against the Presidentâ??s since 1983. Leading 7-6 at halftime, Geneva could not hold off the W & J attack as it ended the game with 24 unanswered points in a 24-7 decision at Cameron Stadium. Scott Erb and Tucker Nuetzel led the defense with ten tackles each while Rocco Colavecchia picked up 75 yards on the ground to lead the rushing attack. The loss dropped Genevaâ??s overall record to 2-6 including a 2-4 conference mark. It also assured Geneva just its fourth losing season in the 19 year head coaching tenure of Geno DeMarco. DeMarco will be coaching his 200th game for the Golden Tornadoes when they host Thiel this Saturday in the 2011 home finale at 1 p.m.
