With the calendar moving to 2012, the menâ??s and womenâ??s basketball teams are both hopeful to go out with the old and in with the new. Both teams have seen their share of struggles during the 2011 portion of the current season. The menâ??s team finished the 2011 year with an overall record of 3-8 while the women fell to 1-10 following a loss at Malone last night.

During the Christmas break, the menâ??s basketball team traveled across the country to participate in the California Lutheran tournament. The Golden Tornadoes brought back, along with a tan, an 0-2 record. Geneva dropped decisions to Carthage and California Lutheran on its trip and fell back to 3-8 overall including a 2-2 mark in conference play. Despite the loss to California Lutheran last Friday, senior guard David Phillips became the 36th member of the 1000 point club. Phillips was named to the All-tournament team mainly due to his 21 point performance in the loss to California Lutheran in the consolation game. The Golden Tornadoes will travel to 19th ranked Wooster on Wednesday before getting back into conference play on Saturday with a matinee against Thiel College. The menâ??s team doesnâ??t return home until January 11 for a date with Saint Vincent.

Genevaâ??s women dropped their tenth straight game on Monday night as head coach Lori Wynn returned to her old stomping grounds at Malone University. The womenâ??s team also hit the road over the break with a pair of losses at the Big Easy Challenge in New Orleans, LA. Beth DeLuca led the team in scoring in both games including a 20 point effort in a loss to SUNY-Plattsburgh. The ten game losing streak marks the first time in school history that a Geneva womenâ??s team has dropped ten straight in a single season. The school record of 13 straight losses was set at the end of the 1988 year and the beginning of the 1989 campaign. The womenâ??s team will look to put an end to its slide on Wednesday night when it hosts Chatham University in a PAC contest beginning at 7 p.m.

Following is the complete athletic schedule for the upcoming week:

Wed., Jan. 4 Women's Basketball vs Chatham 7 p.m.
Men's Basketball at Wooster 7:30 p.m.
Sat., Jan. 7 Women's Basketball at Thiel 1 p.m.
