It is always a good feeling to beat a rival. Genevaâ??s baseball team took care of Grove City in two out of three over the weekend. Genevaâ??s softball team swept Bethany on Wednesday before a disappointing doubleheader loss to Thiel on Saturday. In track and field, Tyler French continued his impressive season with a first place finish in the shot put at the Westminster Invitational.

Genevaâ??s softball team started the week in fine fashion. The Golden Tornadoes swept a doubleheader at defending PAC champion Bethany by scores of 9-3 and 2-1. Geneva busted out its bats in game one with a 3-4 effort from Lori Deem to go along with her first home run of the season. Martha Adams also hit a home run in the game one victory. Julie DiLonardo picked up victories in both games as she moved to 16 wins on the year. On Saturday, Geneva got a taste of its own medicine with a pair of losses to Thiel College. The Golden Tornadoes are 18-14 overall and tied for fourth place in the PAC with a 6-4 record. Geneva will host Houghton on Monday and Tuesday in the NCCAA East Regional tournament before getting back into conference play against first place Westminster on Wednesday.

Genevaâ??s baseball team saw its offense spark up on Friday in an 11-6 victory over Grove City. Adam Scheiderer was 3-4 in leading the nine-hit attack against the Wolverines. Mike Jeffreys came on in relief to earn his fifth victory of the season. Jeffreys won his sixth game of the year in Saturdayâ??s night cap as Geneva held on for a 8-5 victory in game two after dropping game one 10-3. The doubleheader split with Grove City left Genevaâ??s overall record at 14-16 and 8-10 in the conference. Geneva is just one game out of the win column for the fourth and final PAC play-off spot with still six games remaining. The Golden Tornadoes head to Kentucky this weekend for a three-game series against Thomas More.

Tyler French was Genevaâ??s only first place finisher at the Westminster Invitational on Saturday. Finishing with a winning distance of 14.02 meters, French cruised past the competition on his way to a first place finish. Jordan Rupert also had a solid showing for the Golden Tornadoes in the javelin. The freshman finished sixth overall in the event with a throw of 49.12 meters. Other highlights on the menâ??s side included a fourth place finish in the triple jump from Mark Filtz. Filtz finished with a leap of 12.35 meters gaining five points for the ninth place menâ??s team in the final standings. Nick Edinger stepped out of his comfort zone to compete in the 1500 meter race but did so in fine style. Edinger finished third overall with a mark of 4:08.47. He finished one spot ahead of teammate Owen Struck with a time of 4:10.59. In sprinting action, Nick Agostinelli finished with the third fastest time in the 100 meter race with a mark of 11.48.

Kathryn Regalado and Katherine Michalak finished third and fourth respectively in the shot put event. Regalado edged out her teammate by less than half of a meter. In the womenâ??s distance events, Emily Hoobler had a busy day. Hoobler finished third in the 1500 meter race with a time of 5:06.24 before posting a ninth place finish in the 800 meter event. Heidi Steiner finished sixth in the 1500 meter race. Teammates Alayna Merkle and Shannon Rech finished third and fourth in the 5000 meter event just three seconds apart. It was also just another day at the office for Liz Michalak with a pair of top ten performances in the 100 meter hurdles and 400 meter dash.
