gcw101jpg.jpgIt was a light week of action for Genevaâ??s menâ??s basketball team as it dropped its only game of the week to Bethany last Wednesday. On that same night, the womenâ??s team picked up its first conference victory of the season and nearly pulled off a sweep for the week but dropped a heartbreaking 57-56 overtime loss to Chatham on Saturday.

Genevaâ??s men picked up their most impressive victory of the season over Thiel a week ago Saturday. But the Golden Tornadoes were unable to carry that momentum in Wednesdayâ??s match-up with a very good Bethany team. Geneva was never in the game against the Bison as it dropped a 90-49 decision. The loss dropped Geneva to 2-16 overall and 2-8 in conference play. Holding steady in the eighth spot in the PAC standings, the Golden Tornadoes have six more conference games remaining to try and advance to at least seventh place to avoid the first round play-in game at the start of the PAC tournament. Geneva will take its show on the road this week to Thomas More and Waynesburg still in search of its first victory away from Metheny Field house. Geneva is 0-10 on the road this season and 0-5 on the road in conference action.

It was a long time in coming but the Geneva College womenâ??s basketball team picked up its first conference victory last Wednesday. Sparked by 16 points each from Heidi Mann and Leah Prisuta to go along with ten points off the bench from Bri Cowden, the Golden Tornadoes held off Bethany by the score of 56-50. On Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes were looking for their first back to back victories in over two years but came up on the short end of a dramatic overtime decision against Chatham. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a 57-56 decision in a game that they battled back from six points down in the second half. Leah Prisuta had a chance to win the game in regulation and Heidi Mann had a chance to win the game in overtime but neither shot went down. Prisuta finished the game with her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Geneva will take its 3-16 overall record and 1-11 PAC mark on the road this week to Thomas More and Waynesburg. The Golden Tornadoes will be in search of their first road win of the season having dropped nine straight to open the season.

Finally, a big congratulations to the Geneva College athletic department as a record 56 fall student-athletes were recognized this past week as members of the Presidentsâ?? Athletic Conference honor roll. Recipients must have maintained at least a 3.6 GPA during the fall semester. The total of 56 recipients marks a record number for Geneva College during the last six years as members of the PAC. Geneva had the second most student-athletes recognized this fall out of the ten member schools in the PAC.
