It is play-off time on College Hill and the Presidentsâ?? Athletic Conference post-season tournaments are coming to Geneva College. The menâ??s soccer team and volleyball team will each be hosting a play-off game on Tuesday night to open the 2012 post-season. Meanwhile, the womenâ??s soccer team needed a pair of victories last week to qualify for the NCCAA post-season and they took care of business. The womenâ??s cross country team put on an outstanding show at the PAC meet and finished with a second place overall spot while Nick Edinger headed up the menâ??s team with a third place overall finish. Genevaâ??s football team dropped a decision at Grove City on Saturday night that will keep it from posting at least a .500 record with just two games remaining on the schedule.

The menâ??s soccer team missed a couple of opportunities earlier in the year that would have given it the PAC top seed. The Golden Tornadoes did get things done on Saturday night as a must-win against Thiel turned into a 4-1 victory and a second seed in the post-season dance. Garrett Masters, Max Flick, Daniel Cox and Teddy Krzwiecki each scored in the win as the Golden Tornadoes celebrated senior night with a regular season finale victory. Nine seniors said good-bye to the Geneva program in style. Geneva finished the regular season with a 9-5-3 overall record and a 5-1-2 mark in conference play. The Golden Tornadoes will open the PAC tournament at home on Tuesday night against Grove City at 7 pm.

The Geneva volleyball team needed to take care of its business in the final week of the season to ensure a opening round home play-off game. The Golden Tornadoes went 3-0 in league play this past week to secure the fourth seed in this weekâ??s tournament. In the most electrifying match of the season, Geneva rallied from two games down to upend Bethany 3-2 on Tuesday night. The Golden Tornadoes followed that with wins against Saint Vincent and Grove City to close out the week. Geneva finished the regular season with a 22-5 overall record and a 13-5 mark in league play. Seniors Paige Banyas, Maggie Bowersox and Kristland McCracken finished up their regular season for the final time as the trio of seniors were honored on Tuesday night. Geneva will open up the six-team PAC tournament on Tuesday night at home against fifth seeded Westminster at 7 pm.

Coming into the final week of the regular season, the Geneva womenâ??s soccer team needed to win its final two matches of the season to finish with a record above .500, which would qualify them for the NCCAA post-season. Geneva out scored Chatham and Thiel 11-1 in the final two games to secure the post-season berth. In Genevaâ??s 7-0 victory over Chatham, Elise Mann registered three goals while sister Heidi posted a pair. Heidi Mann came back on Saturday and scored two more goals pushing her season total to 17 goals, which is the most single season goals by a freshman in school history. Seniors Risa Tillman and Maura Allen were recognized prior to Saturdayâ??s game as they completed their career on College Hill. Genevaâ??s womenâ??s finished the regular season with a record of 9-8-1 overall and 5-4 in the PAC. The NCCAA east regional tournament will most likely be held at Houghton College possibly as early as this coming weekend, but the details are still being worked out.

The post-season opened for the Geneva cross country team on Saturday at Bethany College, which was the sight of the PAC Championships. As expected, Nick Edinger led the menâ??s team with a third place overall finish and a first team All-Conference selection. Edinger crossed the line in third overall position with a time of 26:25. The only two runners that bested Edinger were both NCAA national qualifiers. Owen Struck finished 36th and Charles Parker was 42nd to finish in the top 50. As a team, Genevaâ??s men finished in a sixth place tie with Thomas More.

Genevaâ??s women had an even more impressive showing. The Golden Tornadoes came up just short of Grove City with a second place overall finish. Far from a disappointing showing, Geneva placed three runners in the top ten. Sarah-Noel Meek finished third overall with a time of 23:20 with teammate Alayna Merkle turning in a sixth place finish with a mark of 23:41. Both Meek and Merkle received PAC first-team All-Conference honors. Shannon Rech was a second team All-Conference performer with an eighth place finish while Emily Hoobler received honorable mention consideration for her 17th place spot. Genevaâ??s next test will come at the NCAA regional meet in two weeks.

Not much went right for the Geneva football team on Saturday night. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a 26-8 decision at Grove City to fall to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the PAC. The loss ensured back to back losing seasons for the Golden Tornadoes which hasnâ??t happened since 1992-93. Grove City nearly doubled Geneva in total offense despite another solid effort by quarterback Rocco Colavecchia. Taking all the snaps on Saturday night with Zack Hayward out with an injury, Colavecchia rushed for 56 yards and threw for 82 in a game that featured only 181 yards of total offense. The defense was led by a solid effort from Jake Delmonico. The junior defensive back had a team best nine tackles, three pass break-ups and an interception to his credit. After six road games in the first eight, the Golden Tornadoes will close out the 2012 season with back to back home games starting with Washington & Jefferson this Saturday night at 7 pm.

Basketball season is just around the corner with both the menâ??s and womenâ??s team opening up the regular season on November 16th. Midnight madness kicks off the season this Wednesday night at 11 pm at Metheny Fieldhouse.
