The Geneva College athletic fall season came to a disappointing end as Genevaâ??s volleyball and menâ??s soccer teams each ended their seasons at the NCCAA East Regional tournament. Meanwhile, the menâ??s and womenâ??s basketball teams each opened their seasons with 0-2 starts. There was however much to be celebrated this fall with the naming of the Presidentsâ?? Athletic All-Conference teams as Geneva had several players well represented.

Genevaâ??s volleyball team split a pair of matches in Fridayâ??s NCCAA East regional pool play. After defeating Nyack 3-0, the Golden Tornadoes dropped a 3-0 decision to Mt. Vernon Nazarene. The Golden Tornadoes opened Saturdayâ??s quarter-final round with a 3-1 victory over Houghton before bowing out of the tournament with a 3-0 loss to top-seeded Malone University, which eventually took the regional crown. The Golden Tornadoes finished the 2012 season with an overall record of 24-13 and senior Maggie Bowersox was named a first-team All-Conference selection. Ashley Davis, Deanna Briody and Kristland McCracken were all named second team selections.

The menâ??s soccer team suffered a similar fate this weekend as it came within one game of making a repeat trip to the NCCAA national tournament. On Friday, the Golden Tornadoes upset top-seeded Houghton College with a penalty kick victory. After battling the Highlanders to a 1-1 double overtime tie, Bryan Butler took over for Geneva and made three consecutive saves to help Geneva to a 3-2 penalty kick victory. On Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes could not ride that wave of momentum and dropped a 2-0 championship decision to Roberts Wesleyan to finish the 2012 season with an overall record of 10-7-5. After finishing as the PAC runners-up, Geneva was awarded with several post-season honors on the All-Conference team. Bryan Butler, Teddy Krzywiecki, Jon Mathoslah and Jeb Nash were all first team selections while David Gerlach, Jesse Herman and Garrett Masters were honorable mention selections.

In womenâ??s soccer, Heidi Mann and her team leading and freshmen record 18 goals was good enough to earn her All-PAC first team honors. Older sister Elise Mann was a second team selection with senior Risa Tillman receiving honorable mention consideration.

Congratulations should also go out to All-PAC first team performers Dillon Goodell and Corey Oâ??Patchen for the football team. Zack Hayward and Rocco Colavecchia, along with Tyler French were named to the All-PAC second team.

The 2012-13 basketball season tipped off for the Geneva men and women. The womenâ??s team traveled to Houghton College for a weekend tournament that resulted in a pair of early season losses. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a 44-30 decision to Pitt-Bradford in the season opener with Leah Prisuta grabbing a team best 12 points in the loss. On Saturday, Geneva lost another defensive struggle to Penn State Greater Allegheny by the count of 45-40 with Samantha Fisher scoring a team high 12 points. Geneva opens its home schedule on Tuesday when Penn-State Beaver comes to Metheny Fieldhouse.

The menâ??s basketball team opened its season with the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Tournament. Matt Lorello was in mid-season form as the senior forward was named to the All-Tournament team with a weekend best 57 points. Lorello scored 31 points in Genevaâ??s 88-79 loss to Penn State-Fayette on Friday night. On Saturday, Lorello posted 26 points in a heartbreaking 77-75 loss to Pitt-Greensburg. Geneva rallied back from as many as ten points down against the Bobcats and tied the game with five seconds left on a three-point field goal from Jordan Harbison. Pitt-Greensburg won the game on a tip-in with 0.1 seconds remaining in regulation. Harbison made four three-point field goals on Saturday and finished with 14 points. The Golden Tornadoes hit the road for the first time on Tuesday night when they will face cross-town rival Penn-State Beaver at 7:30 pm.

*Geneva and Penn State Beaver are teaming up with Toys For Tots on Tuesday night. At both the menâ??s and womenâ??s games, there will be no admission fee charged but toy and money donations will be taken to benefit the Toys for Tots organization.
