geneva_tornado_logo_web.pngThe bad news for the Geneva menâ??s and womenâ??s basketball teams is that both are still in search of the first victory of the 2012-13 season. The good news for both teams is that conference play is set begin this week. The menâ??s team dropped a pair of games this past week to Penn State Beaver and LaRoche, while the womenâ??s team also fell to the Lions before suffering a setback against Carlow on Saturday.

There is nobody that is hotter on the offensive side of the court than Genevaâ??s Matt Lorello. Lorello has led the menâ??s team in scoring in each of the first four games of the year. On Tuesday night, Lorello was an incredible 15-17 from the field in posting 35 points against Penn State Beaver. He followed that with a 19 point performance against LaRoche on Saturday. For the season, Lorello is averaging over 27 points per game to lead the Presidentsâ?? Athletic Conference. Unfortunately, Lorelloâ??s point production has not resulted in a Geneva victory. Genevaâ??s 0-4 start is a first since the 1981-82 season. The Golden Tornadoes will face Allegheny College tonight in the final non-conference tune up before traveling to Thiel on Wednesday for the conference opener.

The Geneva women have not been able to put things together so far in the new season. Struggling with the turnover bug for most of the early season, the Golden Tornadoes did a much better job in protecting the basketball on Saturday with only 13 turnovers in the loss to Carlow. However, the Golden Tornadoes could not find the basket as they shot just 30% for the game including just six field goals in the second half. Geneva was just 1-18 from three point range this past week in its two losses. Genevaâ??s women have not started 0-4 since 1997-98 season. The Golden Tornadoes open conference play on Wednesday at Thiel before traveling back to Pittsburgh on Saturday for a date with Chatham.
