geneva_tornado_logo_web.pngWith one week to go in the basketball regular season, the Geneva men and women thankfully wonâ??t have to load the bus again as both teams close out the season on the home floor. Neither team managed to win a road game this season as they both fell at Grove City in the final road game of the season on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Geneva indoor track and field team traveled to Baldwin-Wallace for the final tune-up before the NCCAA Indoor Championships this week.

In a season that has been a challenge from start to finish, the menâ??s basketball team will look for a strong finish in the final week of the season. The Golden Tornadoes close out the regular season with three home games this week beginning with a non-conference tilt tonight against Penn State Beaver. Last week, Geneva dropped conference games to Saint Vincent and Grove City to fall to 2-20 overall and 2-12 in the PAC. In both games throughout, the Golden Tornadoes were unable to make a big shot when it was needed the most. Keynon Jackson led the team with 14 points against Saint Vincent with Matt Lorello posting 16 points in the loss to Grove City. Geneva will try to avoid season sweeps this week against the Lions, W & J and Westminster in the season finale. The Golden Tornadoes will try to improve its seeding for the PAC tournament which begins next week. As it stands now, Geneva will be playing in Mondayâ??s first round play-in game if nothing changes.

Genevaâ??s women dropped games to Saint Vincent and Grove City last week and fell to 3-20 overall and 1-15 in the PAC. The losing slide reached five straight despite a career 15-point effort turned in by sophomore Bri Cowden in Saturdayâ??s loss at Grove City. Finishing the season winless on the road, the Golden Tornadoes will close out the regular season with home games against Washington & Jefferson and Westminster this week. Freshman Heidi Mann leads Geneva with 12.1 points per game as one of Genevaâ??s bright spots all season.

Yet again the Geneva College track and field team put together some very impressive individual performances on Friday at Baldwin-Wallace. Preparing for the NCCAA indoor championships coming up this week, the Golden Tornadoes seem to have several student-athletes primed to make some noise against the PAC. Nick Edinger had to clear some more space in his closet for another first place trophy. Edinger cruised to a victory in the 3K while lowering his own school record time by ten seconds to 8:50.72. Ryan White rewrote the Geneva record book with a 6.47 second effort in the 55 meter event breaking a record that has stood for eight years. Josh Guiser (55 meter) and Sarah-Noel Meek (One-Mile) each posted NCCAA qualifying times. For Meek, the one-mile event was the third different event that she has now qualified. Personal best performances were also turned in by Chez Anderson (500 meter), Aaron Marga (55 meter), Anna Kluitenberg (one-mile) and Matt Logan (shot put).
