The basketball regular season came to an end on Saturday as the menâ??s team finished on a season high with three consecutive victories including a very sweet overtime win over rival Westminster. The womenâ??s team fell to the Titans in the season finale and ended its 2012-13 campaign. At the NCCAA national track and field meet, a pair of women put together record setting performances in the distance races to make the long trip well worth it.

For the majority of the season, the menâ??s basketball team has struggled through some difficult times. In the final week of the regular season, the Golden Tornadoes finally put things all together and won three straight games. Victories over Penn State Beaver, Washington & Jefferson and Westminster has the Golden Tornadoes primed for a run at the Presidentsâ?? Athletic Conference tournament. Geneva needed to win its final two conference games to avoid Mondayâ??s play-in game and that is exactly what happened. As a result, the Golden Tornadoes will travel to Kentucky for a first-round match-up against Thomas More on Tuesday night. The week opened with a career best performance from Jordan Harbison. Harbison scored 32 points in Genevaâ??s victory over Penn State Beaver which served as momentum for wins over W & J and Westminster. Matt Lorello averaged 21 points for the week and shot an incredible 79% from the field for the week (27-34). Geneva closed out the regular season with an overall record of 5-20 including a 4-12 mark in the conference. Winless on the road all season, Geneva would love to buck that trend in the first-round game on Tuesday night.

Genevaâ??s women closed out a 3-22 season for the second consecutive year, including a 1-17 mark in conference play. Heidi Mann averaged 16.5 points in the final two games of the season against W & J and Westminster and ended up Genevaâ??s leading scorer at 12.4 points per game. On Saturday night, Geneva took a one-point lead into the locker room but was unable to hold off Westminster down the stretch. Seniors Leah Prisuta and Chelsea Dâ??Urso were honored on Saturday night for their final games with the Golden Tornadoes.

Nick Edinger has been breaking records like itâ??s his job so far during the indoor season. Edinger was kept out of the weekendâ??s NCCAA national indoor meet for precautionary reasons. The second half of the distance duo was well on her game. Freshman Sarah-Noel Meek set a school record in the 5000 meter race and brought home a fifth place overall finish. Meek crossed the line in a time of 18:41.21 to set a new school record. On Saturday, Alayna Merkle tried to do outperform Merkle with a record setting day of her own. Merkle set a new school mark in the one-mile race with a finishing time of 5:23.77, which was good enough for ninth place overall. Later in the day, Merkle ran the 3000 meter race and set a new personal best time. The indoor track and field season comes to an end on Thursday at the PAC championships.
