geneva_tornado_logo_web.pngThe Presidentsâ?? Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Invitational really could not have gone much better for the Golden Tornadoes. With several school records falling and even more student-athletes posting personal best performances, the PAC Invitational proved to be a great way for the Geneva College track and field team to springboard to the outdoor season. The basketball season officially came to an end with the first round play-off loss for the menâ??s team at Thomas More. Although it doesnâ??t feel much like spring outside, it is time for baseball and softball to get things going in the next week.

After sitting out the NCCAA national meet, Nick Edinger was back to his old form as the senior broke his own school record in the 5K as he lapped the field and finished the race with a time of 15:16, which was 18 seconds better than his previous mark. Josh Guiser put his name in the record book with a time of 7.14 in the 60 meter race, which placed his third at the PAC Invitational. A total of 13 personal records were set last week including Chez Andersonâ??s third place finish in the 800 meter event with a time of 2:07.21. Jacob Mellinger (400 meter) and Charles Parker (Mile) also posted personal best times.

In womenâ??s action, Sarah-Noel Meek and Anna Kluitenberg finished 1-2 in the 5K race. Teammate Alayna Merkle enjoyed a stellar day with a first place finish in the 800 meter race and a second place slot in the mile. Sara Williams highlighted the womenâ??s field events with a fourth place finish in the shot put with a distance of 10.69 meters.

After battling second seed Thomas More for most of the game, the Geneva menâ??s basketball team fell to the Saints 82-60 in the first round of the PAC tournament last week. The Golden Tornadoes ended their season with an overall record of 5-21 but were clearly playing their best basketball at the end of the season with a three-game winning streak vaulting them into the first round of the tournament.

Congratulations to womenâ??s head coach Lori Wynn and the Golden Tornadoes for receiving the PAC Sportsmanship trophy last week. In addition, freshman Heidi Mann was named an All-Conference honorable mention selection for a stand out campaign.
