History was made this past week as the Geneva College softball team joined the womenâ??s volleyball team as PAC champions. Meanwhile, the menâ??s and womenâ??s track and field team took a total of 23 student-athletes to Judson University for the NCCAA national track and field meet with some very impressive results.

Genevaâ??s softball team finished the PAC tournament with a perfect 3-0 record and its first conference title after defeating Thiel College 1-0 in the championship round. Julie DiLonardo proved to be the best pitcher in the conference by picking up all three wins in the tournament including the shut-out in the finals. DiLonardo was named the tournament MVP and was joined on the all-tournament team by Martha Adams, Christina Fuqua and Ashley Davis. Fuqua scored the gameâ??s only run in the championship game thanks to a throwing error as Geneva took advantage of just one hit. The Golden Tornadoes sit with an overall record of 30-17 and will find out on Monday where and when they will play in the NCAA regional tournament. There are eight NCAA regionals with each champion advancing to the NCAA Division III World Series beginning on May 18.

The menâ??s and womenâ??s track team gave some solid performances at the NCCAA national meet. Senior Liz Michalak led the way with an outstanding performance in the heptathlon. Michalak finished second in the multi-event giving her Genevaâ??s best finish at the national meet. Mary Keen finished ninth in the discus while teammate Kathryn Regalado was fifth in the shot put. In distance events, Emily Hoobler was seventh in the 5000 meter event.

Junior running sensation Nick Edinger has a busy weekend as he competed in both the 5000 and 10000 meter races. He finished fourth in both events with a time of 32:43 in the 10000 and 15:32 in the 5000 race. In other menâ??s action, Rick Truesdell had a personal best in the shot put and Owen Struck gave a personal best in the 1500 meter race. Freshman Jordan Rupert placed fourth overall in the javelin with a distance of 177-07 while Mark Filtzâ??s distance of 43-07 in the triple jump was good enough for fifth place.
