Head Coach - Lori Wynn
Lori Wynn took over the reins in 2011 and is set to begin her sixth season at the helm. Previous to Geneva, Wynn spent eight years as the head coach for Malone College where she compiled an overall record of 85-147. Wynn has spent a total of 18 seasons as a head coach including stops at Grace, IN and Nyack College. She has been involved in collegiate coaching for a total of 23 years including stints as an assistant coach at Taylor, Baptist Bible and Appalachian State. Her career head coaching record coming into the new season sits at 148-309.
During her most recent stint at Malone, Wynn coached a two-time NAIA All-American as well as coaching a total of 11 NAIA All-American Scholar Athletes. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that every one of Wynn′s student-athletes have graduated during her 13 years as a head coach.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Wynn is a 1992 graduate of Houghton College. Wynn began her collegiate career as a player and as a student at Geneva College during the 1988-89 school year. She transferred to Houghton following her freshman year to pursue a different academic major. She earned her B.S. in Physical Education prior to earning a M.E.D. in Health and Physical Education from East Stroudsburg University in 2001.
In addition to her coaching duties, Wynn teaches in Geneva′s Physical Education Department. She also loves the beach, enjoys being active by competing in triathalons and running, and has a schnauzer named KC.
Interim Associate Head Coach - Patience Baker
Patience Baker has been named Interim Associate Head Coach for the 2016-17 women’s basketball season. Baker enters her second year on the Golden Tornadoes coaching staff. She has accepted the responsibility to continue directing the program forward towards head coach Lori Wynn’s vision and philosophy while Wynn receives treatments for cancer in North Carolina.
“I’m very excited,” said Baker. “My first season with Geneva I was ready to jump in and go—take our program to another level and that carries over into this season. I have the same mindset, I have the title change but nothing has changed; my goals and expectations are the same.”
Under the guidance of Wynn and Baker, the 2015-16 Golden Tornadoes reached a milestone, achieving the program’s first appearance in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference post-season.
“I love working with Lori,” said Baker. “We work so well together. I don’t know if she knew while I was going through the whole interview process but our styles and personalities allow us to work so well together. And that is still going on—we connect every day, we are still communicating and we are on the same page. Even though she is in North Carolina and going through all this, we are still working as a team together.”
Baker had a stellar collegiate career starting as freshmen at South Carolina State. After completing two seasons at NCAA Division I South Carolina State, she transferred closer to her hometown (Columbus, Georgia) to play point guard for Fort Valley State (GA). She graduated from Fort Valley State with a B.S. degree in Mathematics. Baker became a Graduate Assistant at Waynesburg University after locating to Pennsylvania with her husband who works in Washington, PA as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
“My hope for this season is that I can continue what coach Wynn started seven years ago,” explains Baker. “That when she comes back 100 percent that we are 100 percent as well.”
